There really are a number of ways you could go with this purchase. You could just buy additional batteries and keep them handy and charged. I personally like the ability to just keep some AA’s and this battery pack handy when needed, plus the extra grip van be nice to have. Also, it does not prevent you from placing the product on a tripod. BONUS

This battery grip came bundled with my Nikon D500 for free, so you can’t beat the deal.

This battery grip really comes in handy when you are out all day shooting.
mikeman –
Does what it supposed to do…works great….nice accessory.
Robby –
If you own a high-end Nikon camera, a battery grip is an absolutely essential component. Without it, your shooting time will be negligible with one battery.
Hohohoyoyoyo –
good stuff. I would recommend this to a friend….

With what 2 128 cards allow the grip is a must. Xqd is a must along with ush-Ii

The battery pack really adds to the camera makes it easier to hold

What can I say, it works exactly how it’s supposed to with out fail. I happen to appreciate the additional weight and the size it adds to my camera. It feels great in my hand at the L bracket from Really Right Stuff seals the deal!
Photopete –
This is a terrific battery grip for the Nikon D500 camera. It’s lightweight and you can use AAA batteries in a pinch.

I got this free when I purchased my Nikon D500. I’m fairly new to the prosumer market and was a bit surprised that it did not come with a battery itself considering the price tag. But I like the weight it adds to the camera and one can use Double A batteries in a pinch.

The battery grip is a must have in the tool box for the Nikon. I have a D500 and the versatility of this unit is wonderful. A great tool.

Product works great. However the price is very high

This is a must have if you’re considering purchasing the Nikon D500. The ease of portraits and the additional battery power makes all the difference.

So, if you have a D500 and you’re thinking of buying a battery grip to go with it, you’ve probably already had to sit down and recover yourself. This thing is preposterously expensive. I went back and forth trying to justify what it was going to cost me and eventually decided to bite the bullet and get one. And I’m glad I did.
If you’ve had other Nikons and added a grip, you know what you’re getting and what you’re not. It adds the capability of an additional battery and allows you to have the same set of controls available when shooting in portrait mode. It does NOT add any additional fps. And as nice and roomy as the D500 is, I still like the camera better with the grip. I have medium-large hands and found that my pinkie was looking for a place to be on the camera before I bought the grip.
I will say, this is the 1st grip I’ve purchased that I didn’t have to nitpick. Every other one from the D200, D7000 and D7200 had wiggle. And it drove me crazy. This one doesn’t move. Once screwed on, it’s solid with no flex whatsoever.
If you’re on the fence on this, I will recommend it highly. At the time of writing, I don’t remember what I paid for it so, the pain of purchase goes away quickly. I resented the purchase of all the others because they didn’t make the camera and grip feel like one solid piece. This one does.
Hope this helps

I got mine when I purchased my Nikon D500. It works great!
Angelvipin –
Wonderful, worth the price. Change the overall feel of the camera

The battery grip is well-made and matches the quality of the D500. There’s no looseness when attached to the camera, and the extra battery (not included) provides enough power for all day shoots. The buttons are a little stiff, but I suspect they’ll loosen up in time. The only downside is the price. I received the grip as part of a package with the camera. Despite the high quality, I would not buy this grip on it’s own for its current price.
Bonephotographer –
This has extended the battery life tremendously! The grip on the hand makes such a big difference. Love the vertical controls and being able to program the extra function buttons!
Rudster –
I bought the grip attachment to use along with my D500 for portraiture. What I like about it the most is that you’ll have double the battery life allowing you to make the most use of lenses when your in an environment that necessitates aggressive auto-focus, vibration reduction, and using liveview to either film or take photographs. It’s as easy as plug and play, just make sure you turn off/on the switch when needed. Nice to have when you’re out and about in the city and don’t want to spend time charging batteries!

Skip the third party and get this grip, the genuine Nikon is much better built, so if you’re going to use the camera as intended it’s 100% worth it. It takes the same battery trays as the D800/D810/D850 as a bonus, and will use 8 AA, EN-EL15 or EN-EL18 batteries.
Cloverfield –
If you shoot a lot of the time vertically, this grip is a must. Makes handling the D500 so much easier.
Corey –
I received this free with my D500. It seems to be built well and the buttons are well placed.
Legi –
Works good with my new Nikon D500, i recommend this well made product! the grip is good to hold expensive DSLR to protect from accidental drop.
Kaye –
If you’re out shooting all day this is a must have. Nice tight fit to the camera and makes it easier to shoot vertical images.
Breezy –
Cant beat the fit and finish of a Nikon grip. Get this in a package while it’s on sale with the D500 and it’s a smoking deal.
jimmy –
Very nice to have this battery grip because it not only holds an extra battery but adds additional support/balance when using a telephoto lens.
Murray –
Good for vertical shots. Better balance on gimbal with long lenses.
mountainviewer –
I always purchase the vertical grip/battery pack when purchasing a DSLR and this one works perfectly. it does add some weight but the overall balance is perfect. I prefer the balance and feel of the grip and don’t mind the extra weight.
tammy –
I added this to my d500. So far it is working well.
Sadie –
Best grip I have ever used great quality and feels really good in your hand
Joseph –
Adding a grip/ plus more power for faster shots per second, also life time, the feel it gives you. For both begainers who only know what they’re missing after they try one out, or a pro who Must have it for all 3 reasons in order of speed, battary life, grip can be vertical without awkwardly shifting finger to shutter button. Yes! Costly up front, but you’ll Never look back, nor regret getting pne. Besides, u list for sale and it’ll be grabbed up in a day or so.
Josh –
Really good battery grip that serves the purpose of being able to stretch my shooting time.
ihidnan –
Love the feel of my D500 with this grip. The control buttons on the grip make it so easy to shoot.
Robert –
I received this new with the purchase of my d500 so I can only be but so critical.
Works as it should and feels good in the hand however, it does NOT come with a battery. If you look, the retail on this unit is around $300 which is outrageous for what it is, a chunk of plastic WITHOUT a battery.
But like I said, I got it free with purchase of my d500 so after a $50 battery, i’m still ahead.
DaBears –
In my opinion, this is highway robbery by Nikon. Nonetheless, I bought it so I guess they got away with it. It is well made and I wanted to have it … just shouldn’t cost this much.
Iggyfan –
Great optional addition, but not totally necessary. It does add more weight to the camera.
K9OPERATOR –
Extra battery and great feel. Love the extra vertical grip and bulk to the camera. Looks like it was made with the camera. Got it on sale. Very easy to set up. No complaints.
Force1 –
I bought this cause the 3rd party grips did not work on the Nikon D500. This grip works great and is made of good quality materials. It is more expensive so to being the Nikon brand, but better than any 3rd party grip I own.
robroy0071 –
Purchased the Nikon D500 with the the MB-D17 battery grip. Buy the legit battery grip. The aftermarket are too flimsy and they do not feel the same.
Great price and service through Best Buy is the reason why I shop there.
Thanks BB…!
Junior –
Always nice to have the vertical grip. Easier to shoot verticals and also have the extra battery
Waldo –
I bought this grip as part of a deal with the D500 cameral is works great and increases the frame rate and the control dials and buttons on the grip work great
Doggieman425 –
Adding the ability to comfortable hold the camera in a vertical orientation without curling the wrist was critical for me. The ability to add battery capacity, as well as control buttons such as shutter and focus helped me capture high sports in much more comfortable and capable manner.
Mike –
Makes my D500 easy to hold on to with long lens and love the way you can also use Double d batteries if your out of your camera batteries. Only down side is added heavyweight which for me is no problem.
ahighland –
This product preformed so much better than the knock offs, this unit was more money, but well worth it.
Trbo –
Nice battery grip and must have if you shoot photos alot
Roberto –
Enjoying the extra photos without running out of battery.
Dick –
Excellent battery grip for your Nikon D500. I will have extra battery life with two batteries and your camera will be very stable for professional results.
Dans –
not as Heavy as I thought it would be.am so happy to be able to turn my camera and still have all the buttons where they’re supposed to be
ArthurF –
The OEM MB-17 battery grip is excellent with the Nikon D500. The extra weight gives the camera a more balanced feel and power to the camera.
