Chipman –
I am really please because it’s like having a second pair of eyes watching your back., the NextBase rear view is exactly the trick.
Tony –
Purchased on 12/29/2019 – so far no problem. Crystal clear quality and honestly pretty solid for the price that you are paying!
NJCarlos –
NOT SATISFIED WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS, NOT VERY EASY TO SET UP. I WILL NEVER BUY THIS BRAND AGAIN
Glenn –
This is a great product and it has worked as expected.

I recently purchased a Nextbase 322GW dash camera, and a large part of the reason I chose it was due to the availability of this rear-view camera module. No other dashcam (that I am aware of) offers this type of option and I wanted to be able to monitor traffic behind me as well as in front.
The problem is that I drive a convertible, and most dashcams with a rear camera attach to the back window – obviously not an option when you have a convertible. There are some dashcams that offer a rear camera that can mount outside (like off the license plate bracket) but those require a lot more tricky wiring through the trunk, etc. This Nextbase solution is so much easier!
Pros:
Simple to install.
Worked right away. Some users report having to restart the dashcam to recognize the camera, but that’s not a big deal.
Good picture. The lens is telephoto, so it does not capture the driver or passenger – it aims directly out the rear window.
The lens itself is on a swivel – You can make fine adjustments to the angle of view without repositioning the camera.
Cons:
Makes the dashcam physically larger. It’s not huge, but you will have to fiddle with the location to make sure the front camera has a good view, the rear camera has a good view, and the camera itself does not block your forward view or mirror. If you think you might add a camera module to your Nextbase, do not install the adhesive mount until you test it with the module! Otherwise you might end up having to unstick it and move it.
Rear camera resolution is not identical to the front camera resolution – With my 322GW, I get 1080p from the front camera but only 720p from the rear. With the more expensive Nextbase dashcams, you can get 1080p from the rear camera but I assume it’s limited by the write speed to the microSD card.
Expensive – Although I really like this rear-view camera, it seems pretty pricey for what it is. I feel like a better price point would be no more than $50. In fact I’ve read that in Europe it sells for closer to that price.
Nether Pro nor Con:
Compatibility: The rear camera modules do not work with every single Nexbase dashcam. Basically the 322GW is the least-expensive model they work with.
In short – I’m very pleased with this rear-view camera. It does exactly what I wanted it to do and works well. My biggest knock is the price, but I’m not aware of any similar product out there that gives you a rear view without the installation issues.
TF1593 –
Connects easily to Nextbase.
picture quality is good.

This nextbase rear view camera is great. Easy to install and very clear.

We go the rear facing telephoto view camera to add-on to the 522GW so we can see traffic issues behind the car and if there is an incident, to get the license plate of any car that might be involved.
This little extra can do that and makes it easy to identify other vehicles behind our car. It is nice to know we are protected in case of an accident, or other issue where identification of a vehicle is involved. 30 seconds to connect to main camera, works right out of the box… Cool!
nosniksoh –
This not so great view in my car reason my car is long from back so does give me the proper view in the back!
Ernie59 –
This is an Ok device, It is an add for the 522GW dash cam.
Alleycat –
It works good for the money. I like the camera and it’s little.
NVME –
Honestly, it was ok but I liked the cabin cam better. This may be good for a car or SUV, but where I have a truck it mainly is just zoomed in on the bed, but struggles to see vehicles behind me.
Jerry –
All I had to do was plug it in and it was ready to go, so took five seconds to get it up and running.
Apple12PROMAX –
Did not like the camera and if you are trying to capture a true video of what is taking place behind you in the car this is not the item for you. It did okay with capturing things in the backseat but I was not interested in that. Buy a dedicated review camera if your vehicle does not have one instead.

We have Nextbase dashcams in both my wife’s car and my car. I wanted to add a rearview camera, but was balking at running wiring under the headliner to a camera mounted on the rear window. Having a camera mounted on the rear window also seemed like one more thing to distract me while driving. I was a bit skeptical of a plug in telephoto rear camera, but it’s worked well in my car. My wife’s car(small hatchback) has the small, constrained vision rear window that’s become stylish in these cars and it does limit the field of view for the rear camera – something to consider.
One thing to note, although the rear view shows up in a corner of the on-screen display, the front and rear recordings are separate.
Joseuff –
Great quality and has telephoto lens. The only thing is you need to purchase the next base front facing dash cam and this is an extra $100.00 if you don’t find it on sale.
Hambojambo –
It works exactly like it supposed to. The installation was very simple and it works well. The quality of the camera is pretty decent for the size.
Dave –
Great concept. Wish it was on a cord so I could mount in rear window. Simple and easy to plug into camera and not have wiring
JHD50 –
Great addition to my 522 dash cam. Using it in Jeep Grand Cherokee and picks up what’s going on behind me.
Spoonman –
It’s a great camera but my SUV was so big I opted for the rear view mounted option.
622GW –
A great alternative to a mounted dedicated rear view cam. Luv the ability to remove or swap.
Sonos –
Nextbase rearview dashboard camera. I feel safe now
Oldgamer –
Happy with the product. Appears to work fine. Not super impressed with the app / user interface.
Alienware –
This rear facing camera is good to have, because it also picks up what you are saying in the cab of your car, so maybe if there also some road rage incident and they come to your car the whole conversation will be picked up.
dagdaenigma –
An excellent and High Definition rear camera that works with the Nextbase dashcam. A swivel for the camera where it plugs into the Dashcam would make it easier to position.
Unknown –
Love this attachment and idea better than the actual camera!
Spammy –
Great Value! Nice picture. Easy to install. Looked around for it.
ptplayer007 –
Great product, allows user to see traffic behind and records.
ShihPooPapPap –
I like the telephoto camera (for rearward looking view) better than the wide-angle camera to watch the occupants. The only issue I have is that you cannot adjust the vertical angle since is is a hard mount to the forward looking camera.
Astrowife68 –
Easy plug, and play operation, that provides the same view as a rearview mirror would. Before installing this, you MUST have a compatible memory card. The only card we found that would work with this in the camera, was the Nextbase brand cards.
idontspeakmonkey –
Great addition to a great dashcam. Added it to my 622gw, and works as expected. No fussing, just attached it and aimed it and it works. Very small footprint (see pics)
TravelAlot –
First one I bought didn’t work but Best Buy immediately ordered a new one and had it sent to my house. It works perfectly. Just what I needed to enhance my vehicle’s protection.
Penelope –
The Camera has good quality even at night, and it certainly gets the job done. However, when you see yourself in the camera it can be a touch humbling.
NYCdad –
Good quality video, but some irksome things: it sometimes interferes with the software in the main camera, leading the main camera to freak out and stop recording and sometimes also start beeping, requiring a power cycle before calming down and resuming normal functioning. Also wish I could toggle between telephoto (to see through the rear window) and wide-angle (to capture vehicle interior). Unfortunately you have to pick one or the other, can’t even buy both since there’s only one HDMI slot in the 522 I have it plugged into.
6StoryDragon –
Great interior video for rideshare and there is a great deal
GatorBait –
Added this unit a year after purchasing the base. The app is horrible but I do love the fact that I can just download what I need from the SD card or patiently waiting for the app. Crystal clear will record cars from behind and can capture back seat action if need. But not much. Will be purchasing another one when my kid turns 16 and start driving.
Tallman –
So easy to just snap into my Next base 622GW Dash Cam.
GaryS –
Plug and play easy add on rear view recording. Captures rear images as if seen by rearview mirror.
mglind –
This works great as a simple to add rearview camera without doing additional wiring. The field of view is a little distant looking through the back rear windshield, but the picture is very clear.
BigMo –
I wouldn’t recommend this for a pickup truck but for a sedan or smaller suv this works fine.
BHtazman –
The Nextbase dashcam has great clarity and sound. It has caught all the driving crimes in front of me. There are more and more detected every time I’m out driving.
Carguy –
So far so good, nice not having to run a separate cable to the rear of the vehicle. Also the camera can be adjusted which is a nice bonus i didn’t realize until i started using it
Chris –
Good camera for rear view protection. Super easy to install.
JackDLadder –
The camera that faces into the car is pointless for me. The camera might be good for someone who drives for Uber, but you cant see anything behind the car.
AlexP –
Works great with my Nextbase Dashcam, clear picture
Scott –
Great little lens. Works very nice. Wasn’t happy that it shipped in a soft sided envelope and the lens is in a flimsy box/plastic container that could have easily been damaged.
Vreilus –
Love it so far, had it for a few months and no issues. Wish it had more zoom but it does the job
AddDoc –
Provides “rear-ward” POV support. Would hope going forward this is a standard feature integration not deemed an accessory.
FrankH –
Bought this also for my daughter. It works great. I have this in my car.
DaminM –
This works great with the nextbase dash cam 322. I bought after some fool backed up into my car!
