Dave –
Best Soundbar System i have heard so far. The sound is Amazing. Feels like your sitting at the theater. You can adjust the Surround Speakers from zero to 10. I thought with 2 subwoofers that the bass might be overwhelming but that is not the case. My other 2.1 Soundbar only had 1 subwoofer and it would produce too much bass at times to where you couldn’t hear what they were saying clearly.
Only con would be that it has wires running from the surround speakers to the subwoofers but the sound is so good that i can deal with it. I plan on getting the same Soundbar System for our basement when we get it done.
SpeakersAreMyOhm –
I had a little trouble during set-up getting all the channels to connect and turn on. The instructions say to leave all the power disconnected until all of the components are connected. Which i didnt do. I set up the subs and soundbar first. It took me 2 days to mount the four surround speakers near the ceiling angled downward at the seating area. This basically makes all of my surround speakers height channels, and any Atmos coding simply adds a more enriching dynamic to the already wide and spacial sound. The subwoofers are NO JOKE! Think of it as bass in stereo. A truly balanced left and right experience for all the rumble and chest pounding. As we know, the surround speakers are powered by the subwoofers. The right sub powers the RIGHT-BACK & RIGHT SURROUND. Same story with the left sub and LEFT-BACK & LEFT SURROUND. The back speakers go equal to the seating area or behind it if possible. The surrounds go in between the seating area and the screen. The sound bar has angled tweeters on either end that fire sound not directly up but more angled towards the ceiling above and walls on the sides of the audience. Our movie room is a square 12 x 12 with 8 foot ceilings. No acoustic treatment. Just a living room. We switched from the ONN 5.1 surround sound soundbar with 2 rear speakers and a powered subwoofer, albeit the subwoofer driver was about 5.5″ I was SUPREMELY IMPRESSED!! i would highly recommend that Wal-Mart soundbar over most high-end products that I’ve tested personally. Unfortunately there was no Atmos when i bought it. Like with the Nakamichi surrounds, i had the ONN surrounds mounted near the ceiling facing downwards to create a faux height effect which in turn made the room seem to be larger than it was. *NOTE* NAKAMICHI has a few suggested placements for your surround speakers and my design is NOT one of them, but it is incredibly effective. I’m still learning how to adjust all the different channels within the soundbar and also each of the surrounds. There is a subwoofer level control beside the volume level control. So here is the big question: I spent $2000 on this after tax, is it worth it? For a beginner system, no i think there are more user friendly systems to get started with. The new ONN atmos is a good option, and the Vizio Elevate i was looking at too. Alternatively check out the JBL Bar 1300X, Bar 1000, or Bar 9.1 LOTS of bang for your buck. LOTS of really cool features true wireless rechargeable surround speakers for one. Amazing bass, these systems pack the punch for sure. But for the more intermediate audio enthusiasts, i would boldly say YES! 100% BUT THIS. Set up is fun. Making adjustments to fine tune the sound is fun. Watching your favorite movies and hearing what you’ve never heard before in an energetic and engaging soundscape that pulls you into the film. The bass is on point and cinema quality. And if your room is my size, youll learn that its probably too small for this system because this MF gets LOUD!! Check on Klipsch’s website and see how much a 9.2.4 Atmos speaker package will cost, plus the receiver, plus the power amplifier(s), plus ALL THOSE WIRES. Not saying i wouldnt take that route if i owned my home but for the price and convenience and performance and pure cinema from my couch, plus E-ARC, Bluetooth, AUX, Optical, USB, 3 HDMI 2.5 ports… after all the research over many months of visiting different Best Buy stores and checking Amazon and Watching youtube reviews on every soundbar imaginable, THIS IS THE ONE THAT TAKES THE BEST FROM ALL THE OTHERS AND COMBINES IT INTO ONE PACKAGE. Buy it. It may very well be the last home theater system you’ll EVER need!!
JakeW –
Unboxing this system was a really fun experience, every speaker feels like it means business. They use quality materials and it feels it too. Setting it up was as easy as plugging in the satellite speakers to the subs and plugging everything into power and it’s up and running! Listening to music on this system is great, but where it really shines is movies and shows. This system will shake your pictures off the wall if you’re not careful, the surround sound mixed with the dual subs gives you a great listening experience I don’t think anything near this price could give you. I highly recommend this system if you want something big and loud and powerful, that also looks the part! When they say it makes you feel like you’re listening to a movie in a theater, they really mean it!
JenaC –
I have 2 of these systems in my house and absolutely love it. I have 1 in my living room and 1 in my bedroom.
OscarV –
Fantastic sound. The dual subwoofer setup makes a massive difference.
PhilipSeitz –
Great product, I like the bass and overall sound. It’s really perfect consideri I was looking for something more comprehensive than simply a bar and sub. This thing performs and is a good movie watching investment
PaulK –
This is now my second Nakamichi Shockwafe. We loved the unit we have in our FL home so much, we had to get one for the home theatre at our summer home in WI.
I can’t recommend Nakamichi enough! You won’t be disappointed. My only advice would be don’t go cheap… get the 9.2.4 system or better (Dragon).
Steve –
This is a very solid soundbar system. It has three HDMI inputs, one HDMI eARC input, usb, optical & coax digital inputs, and a 3.5mm stereo input. It does Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, among others, and also all channel stereo which is nice to hear music from all the speakers and subs. I was really impressed with the amount of bass it puts out and how loud it can get. The surround effects are good, and I would recommend putting the side and surround speakers a little higher on the wall for best effect. It would have been nice if those speakers were truly wireless, but for the price, it is hard to beat.
AsrarH –
Basically wanted my room to be a theater. Dolby atmos is awesome.
MarkT –
Great sounding. Movies feel different from my older system. A lot of customization options. My 1 want for this system is a phone app.
JeffreyS –
The Nakamichi – Shockwafe 9.2.4 has fantastic Sound. You not only hear the music, but you feel it. I currently have Polk and Bose in different rooms in my house, and the Nakamichi is my favorite by far. The sound clarity, and low bass frequency makes you feel like you are participating in the movie, concert, or sporting event. I would definitely purchase again and recommend to a friend.
DeadlyFrost –
A dual sub system that rocks everything! Superior surround sound with ground quaking results. Best surround sound I’ve ever had!
AdamAli –
This is an amazing sound system. The dipole setup works great with our entertainment area. Whether we’re watching movies or playing games, this sound system does it all.
Mouse –
Decided to upgrade my setup and this did not disappoint. Really great system
MatthewR –
Really happy with my purchase as the two subs fill in the room nicely with bass and make for a more engrossing experience. It’s been a definite upgrade from my last bar and the 4 surrounds have been fantastic even with the dipole setup since my couch is against the wall.
Jicamas –
Is the best system i ever heard besides inside theaters i was blown away when i test it the sound is so amazing now i enjoy watching a movie just like in a theater the system having 2 subwoofers is a game changer i own several home theaters systems that i collected during the years but this Nakamichi system is top of the line and the lighted buttons on the remote is a nice touch.
I just had a little trouble syncing the subwoofers to the main soundbar but reading very carefully the instructions got it synced, you won’t regret buying it, best purchase i had made
AlonzoG –
This system is delivered as promised, loving proof.
JimO –
I liked this soundbar a lot I read many of the reviews. The vast majority of people including me were happy with the soundbar including myself. I could go on and say a lot of positive things about this but I would probably just be repeating what a lot of other people have already said in all of the positive reviews.
ThunderStorm –
Really got a good deal on Nakamichi 9 2 4 I have been watching it for sometime and was a little skeptical because I have an open space living room and Nakamichi didnt disappoint. It base rumbles and doesnt hold back. I think the highest ive gone is 32. Clear voice, bass is on point. Glad I made the purchase.
ChrisJ –
Great upgrades sound is un believable blows Bose and Samsung out of the water. This is as close to the theater you will find subs are couch shakers feels like your there. Remote upgrade very simple to use plus customer service is fast they walk you thru to get the settings perfect. Spend the money this is worth it!!!
EMRO –
Poor audio sound from this system. Doesn’t mix audio well from apple tv. Sounds fair with a stand alone disc player. Center is very harsh. Bass is not like described. Doesn’t get deep.
AlishB –
Speaker was amazing for the price paid . Topnotch .
WinstonN –
Amazing product. Highly recommend. Worth every penny.
CrystalB –
Awesome sauce! I feel like there are actual bombs dropping on my living room.
Banny –
I wasn’t disappointed with this purchase. I had the first 9.2.4 Arc Nakamichi sound system and loved it for movies but it lacked performance when listening to music which I love to do. This new system offers eArc connection to my Sony eArc tv and also has an added 300 watts of power. This system rocks.
GregT –
I recently had a Polk audio system, which was a decent system, but this Nakamichi 9.2 Shockwave specifically, the sound bar is amazing! even without subwoofers connected it puts out amazing sound and I have a large great room. With the base & sound bar, I think the neighbors a block away can hear me. 🙂
DanielM –
I was shopping for a new soundbar to complement my new 4K projector. I had purchased a Nakamichi soundbar a few years ago and loved the great sound and power! So I was delighted they had a new version with 1300 watts of power and with a 9.2.4 channel configuration. But the best part is, it has all the latest tech specs to bring every movie and music to life: Bluetooth, ULTRA 9.2 eARC, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, the latest DTS…4KHDR and HDR10 and with incredible highs and lows! No need for a Sonos or a Bose…or an AVR!
AnilS –
This is a mind-blowing audio system.
Bought it to complement my 120″ HiSense UST (L9G), and it really makes a huge difference to the overall experience.
The soundbar is the brains of the operation, and linked up with the UST projector super easy using a high-speed HDMI cable to give me eArc support.
The 2 sub-woofers connected wirelessly to the soundbar ( i did not have to do a thing to get them to connect, other than plugging them into a power outlet)
I did some basic drywall fishing to position the remaining 4 speakers on the ceiling and walls around my rear sofa, and hooked them up to each of the subwoofers, and boom done !!
Did not make any additional adjustments, and just using the setting OTB right now, and it sounds great !!
P.S i rarely turn the volume above 20s and the base and sound overall are shattering !!

Lets start with what I replaces this with: Twin Infinity Reference 253 towers, reference RC263 & reference RS152 with a Denon AVR S730H! While this system sounds amazing, thundered my home, with the wife always asking to turn it down. My new Nakamichi 9.4.2 eArc beats the $3000 plus full retail of old system in every way imaginable. I was more than skeptical to say the least, when I purchased the newest 2022 Nakamichi 9.4.2 home theater sound system. Asking myself, how can a simple sound bar produce and far exceed the power of a receiver, twin tower, center speaker, and dual reference rear speakers? How can the sound get any better than what I am already hearing? I’ve only had this system hooked up for two days and have dialed in the EQ and familiarize myself with how it works. Not only is this far louder than my previous set up, it’s easily three times as loud. The Nakamichi is crisper, cleaner, louder, and more realistic in every single way I could possibly imagine than my previous system. I am so grateful that I took the time to read over 100 reviews and compare the 2019 model to the 2022 model on the Nakamichi website before I made the purchase. I happen to come across one review from someone who had purchased a 2019 and now owns the 2022 model. That review alone sealed the deal on the 2022 model. Locking it in on a black Friday deal is and probably will be the best gift I’ve given my family all year. We’ve now done away with giant, massive speakers, a bundle of speaker wires, receiver etc. I now have a simple sound bar, PS5 and Nividia Pro all plugged into my LG Oled 65” and it rules them all! Thank you Nakamichi for turning ALL my existing, top tier products and showing me their true potential! You have a customer for life!
Horrible –
It keeps streaming trying to watch a movie or concet it crackles it goes in and out of sound iif it sounded like the you tube version be awesom!! But no 5 hands down 1 star
Gamerthusiast –
the Nakamichi SHOCKWAFE ULTRA 9.2 SSE MAX stands as an impressive sound system delivering an immersive audio experience. Boasting a 9.2-channel setup with dual subwoofers, this soundbar system is designed to bring cinema-quality sound into your living room.
The standout feature of the SHOCKWAFE ULTRA 9.2 SSE MAX is its Spatial Surround Elevation (SSE) technology, which aims to create a three-dimensional audio experience. With multiple speakers placed throughout the room, it achieves a sense of depth and directionality, enhancing the realism of sound effects and positional audio in movies, shows, and games.
The inclusion of two subwoofers significantly enhances the system’s bass response, adding depth and richness to low-frequency sounds, making action scenes and music more dynamic and powerful.
In terms of connectivity, it offers multiple options, including HDMI ARC/eARC, Bluetooth, and optical inputs, ensuring compatibility with various devices. The system also supports 4K HDR passthrough, enabling seamless integration with modern home entertainment setups.
Setup and installation can be straightforward due to its user-friendly interface and included mounting hardware. The system comes with a remote control for convenient adjustments and offers compatibility with some virtual assistants for voice control.
However, while the Nakamichi SHOCKWAFE ULTRA 9.2 SSE MAX delivers an impressive audio experience, it might not be suitable for smaller spaces due to its size and the need for multiple speakers placement to achieve its full potential. Additionally, as with many high-end sound systems, the price point might be a consideration for some buyers.
Overall, if you’re seeking a home theater experience that brings a cinematic feel to your space, with powerful bass and immersive surround sound, the Nakamichi SHOCKWAFE ULTRA 9.2 SSE MAX could be an excellent choice, especially for larger rooms where its spatial audio capabilities can truly shine.
JoshH –
It needs a better hbmi cable. If you don’t purchase a high quality cable the sound can crunchy. With such a high quality system im disappointed they didn’t think of this detail
Waqas105 –
I bought this for my basement multi-media room. I was confused before buying this as it is a new company for me while I was thinking about Bose soundbars as I am a user of it and enjoyed it.
But after much consideration, I bought this soundbar (2 woofers and 4 speakers).
Best thing i can tell you, they have great customer service period.
Installation: very easy, you need mounting brackets if you want to mount them on the wall for speakers.
Setup: use the app and configure it in a couple of minutes.
Sound Quality: OMG it is great quality, I am impressed. watching movies, I will give it 9/10, with this price.
If you are in market for new soundbar, give it try, you will not regret it.
MichaelD –
This sound bar is absolutely phenomenal! Nakamichi is not a name brand you hear every day anymore, like Samsung, Sony and others but let me tell you with all honesty, this sound bar absolutely rocks. This is probably my favorite technology that I have purchased in the last decade. This sound bar is extremely loud, 113db. Much more volume than the average guy needs on a daily basis but it’s the quality of sound that’s equally as important. This sound bar gives you room filling, floor shaking, neighbor annoying, room pressurizing, 360 degree sound. Turning this sound bar up to 40 is nearly painful, i haven’t gone past 52 and this thing goes up to 100. Music quality is good on this sound bar and certainly will please you in the bass category. 2 subwoofers makes a huge difference in bass output compared to 1 subwoofer or no sub at all. Gaming is a complete joy. COD MW3 is explosions and gun fights are out of this world! Music quality is great on this sound bar if you play with the settings to bring out the best sound to your liking. This is not the most user friendly sound bar because it lacks an app and takes considerable more setup and room configuration than other completely wireless soundbars like the Samsung Q990C. I have owned both and the Samsung is good, but this Nakamichi sound bar outclasses the Samsung. Trust and believe the setup process and lack of an app of this sound bar is worth dealing with in order to get to what this sound bar does best, MOVIES IN DOLBY ATMOS. This sound bar absolutely excels at movies and TV shows in Dolby ATMOS. WOW! I no longer ask my wife or family if they’ve seen a movie. Now I ask if they’ve seen the movie in Dolby ATMOS, because if you haven’t seen and felt a movie in Dolby, you really have not seen it at all. When family comes over, I show off my system with these scenes.
1. The Tomorrow War, the battle on the stair case.
2. Top Gun Maverick. The big scene toward the end with 3 miracles and many missiles hitting the air strip.
3. Aqua Man. The opening scene where his mom battles in the house and the aquarium field trip scene.
4. The Dolby ATMOS Blu Ray that comes with the Sound bar.
Guys, I absolutely love my sound bar and now seek out the best Dolby Atmos movies I can. After hearing the sound bar, my wife said “our movie area feels like being at the movies now.”
ManiM –
I’m extremely happy with Nakamichi shockwave 9.2.4. Every particle of the sound is crystal clear and I’m glad I made this purchase. The Ninjas (customer support) is responsible to resolve any query you have about the product.
Tiff100 –
My Goodness, my perfect sourround sound, perfect in every aspect. But, they have to eventally make the the back and surround speakers wireless the subroofers(2) are wireless but you have to plug those speakers into them. Its okay cause there is no disruptions less issues.
Beautiful system especially when it comes to movies. Once you set up the sound its like being A movie theater for real.
BigMig –
Brilliant sound and quality. Easy to set up and use. Its like I’m at the movies.
JonL –
I got this system a week ago and I’m not at all disappointed. The sound is fantastic and I really like the system memory presets. I haven’t had any problems with wifi interference. Even though the amount of wifi “noise” in my house PLAGUED my previous system the Sony HTZ9F. (see my 5 year long reddit thread) It was a nightmare.
My livingroom space where this system is in its very large. About 25′ x 25′ with very high 30′ vaulted ceilings, but the surround sound absolutely dominates the entire room even at half power. Then after my wife goes to bed, I switch on the “DRC” and “All Channel Stereo”. It flattens out all the big noises while the dialog comes through crystal clear from the speakers closest to me. I used to have to use CC late at night. Now I can hear it perfectly even at the lowest volume.
HiFinutt –
First off, let’s get real. The 9.2.4 1300 watt earc Shockwafe is NOT a sonic miracle machine. If the MP3 you’re playing was originally recorded from an LP (like one MP3 I was recently listening to) and has pops and clicks in it from the LP recording, nothing short of an AI revolution can fix it.
And trying to use a 9 channel surround sound system to play 2 channel digital sound isn’t going to sound like you’re in the middle of a live concert either. While the Shockwafe does have some settings to make 2 channel music sound pretty darn good, you do need to temper your expectations just a tad. One thing to remember: garbage in, garbage out!
In addition, keep in mind this system runs on RF frequencies. Meaning if you’re running a WIFI router, a wireless keyboard, a wireless mouse, and a wireless gaming joystick in close proximity to the main unit, chances are the RF will interfere in some manner. Also, you need to make sure you have a clear path between the main soundbar and the satellite woofers. Failure to heed this advice is going to lead to dropouts, pops, and other noise as well.
What this thing can actually do, when set up correctly and with a good quality input, is produce amazing sound. I just got done watching the Christopher Nolan masterpiece ‘Oppenhiemer’ in 4k. Without giving too much away, at one point the shockwafe literally made the room shake while watching this movie. DVD’s fell off the shelf under my 4k TV, and the wireless keyboard sitting on an arm on my recliner fell off and crashed to the ground. My response was very simple, “Oh My God!”. And that was with the volume set to ’20’ on the soundbar. The rest of the movie wasn’t that bad either, the voices were clear as a bell and the surround made you feel like you were in the middle of the movie scene.
And don’t believe what some reviews tell you about this needing to be in a cavernous living room to work either. This system is flexible enough to fit most size rooms, and still sound like a movie theatre. My satellite speakers are between 3-5′ away from me, and it still sounds awesome.
Don’t believe the haters. This soundbar system is as good as any out there. Just don’t expect literal miracles, and you’ll be really happy. I know I am.

Excellent product sound quality have my Nakamichi shockwave 9.2.4 hooked up to my LGOLED C2 if you’re wondering about the sound quality don’t hesitate pull the trigger. Definitely an upgrade from my Vizio elevate p series. Doesn’t even compare on sound if you want Home Theater quality sound go with the Nakamichi definitely has a lot of head room on volume if needed. Super loud base sounds really good. Just hope Best Buy will eventually get the Nakamichi dragon 11.4.6 will definitely upgrade sounds amazing in my theater.
HildaW –
Good item really nice to have sounds great easy to display
John –
Very Good quality Sound system. Especially i was blown away by the BASS. It has out performed other home theater systems that i own.
Amazing –
The double subs is almost overkill, but i absolutely love it!
ToddC –
I love this new soundbar system, Nakamichi knocked this one out of the park. It replaced a Bose lifestyle system I had purchased 18 years ago. This new replacement is even better than the Bose. Would recommend to anyone who likes great base and clear dialogue when watching movies. I haven’t even had to turn it up past 14, very clear and powerful.
JonathandF –
DO NOT PURCHASE. You will regret. Nonexistant support and poor wifi implementation. Go read reddit reviews. Not a good product. Please save yourself the trouble. Ill sell you mine… year old… great price…

Great Product, quality and sound, good product so far

I’ve had this unit for a while now. When things are right, this thing sounds amazing. Be careful with placement of other devices, as this system is prone to interference.

Very nice system with excellent sound quality, easy installation .Excellent

Excellent purchase! No need to run to the theater when you have the theater at home! It even has settings to better fit your room, big or very small. My favorite features are the bass and the ultra convenient sound mix controls on the remote!
