  1. PEOPLEZ96

Works great on Windows, not the best on M1 Mac due to scaling handling.

  2. Unknown

This is probably the best option for mac users that don’t want to spend $1.5k on Apple Studio and have a single 27″ monitor with limited stand options. I had an LG Ultrafine 5K, and I can tell you the difference between 218 to 144 PPI is not a big deal. I ended up getting two monitors without a bezel splitting my screen. I’d recommend this monitor for every Mac user who needs a more real-state in front of the computer.

  3. MaxedMac

This display is in my opinion the best option on the market right now for a lot of different types of users, but especially for mac owners. The display is large, bright, clear and works flawlessly. I really like the design with the white back, a detachable power cord! (NOT a horrible power brick) beautiful and functional stand but it’s also out of the box VESA mountable! This display gets an A+ in a lot of areas for me. I really like the controls which are very easy to engage with and understand using the joystick that is in the middle of the display at the bottom. I also appreciate the designers giving the option to enable or disable the power LED on the display but I especially like that it’s positioned on the bottom of the display and shines downward – it’s not on the front of the display to shine in your face. This is an attention to detail that shows just how much thought was put into the design of this display. Ports galore! Thunderbolt 4 for the display, and if your device supports it there’s a 2nd Thunderbolt port that will allow you to daisy chain a second display, DisplayPort, 2 HDMI ports. There are 2 USB Ports that are on the right side of the display (another attention to detail that I appreciate). The refresh rate is 72Hz (a bit better than the 60Hz on most monitors), Color is spot on. I work from home and this is my everything display! Plenty of room for spreadsheets, 300nits of brightness for photo editing and a wide screen movie fits the screen beautifully with the 21:9 aspect ratio. I think the price point is really a good bargain for everything that you get in this display.

Wanted to use this as an external monitor in conjunction with my 2019 Macbook Pro. After watching numerous YouTube reviews showing seamless and easy set-up, I figured why not? Big mistake. What should have been a 30-second plug and play set up using the Thunderbolt port turned into 2+ hours of trouble-shooting session (eventually got it to work – one time – but not even sure what I did). Looking online I discover that there are MAJOR Macbook compatibility issues with this monitor and scores of message board posts from Mac users experiencing the same issue. (Many of them say to just unplug the monitor for 10 seconds. Yeah, that’s a totally sustainable solution for a busy professional trying to get work done.) Pretty heartbreaking to spend $1800 and to be so excited to use this thing, only to have it be totally DOA. Congrats to LG for pretty much turning me off of their products for life.

I owned this display for a couple weeks. I wanted to love it. The dimensions were great and I really enjoyed the screen size. The built-in power block and daisy chaining for Thunderbolt are also good features. Unfortunately, this displays PPI is not adequate for the Apple Silicon 2021 MacBook Pro. At the monitor’s native resolution, Apple UI icons on the screen are very small. Apple’s scaling options made the icons too large for my taste, wasting screen space IMO. I returned the monitor for a 2020 LG model that has a PPI closer to 110. If you search for awhile online you can find articles about this, but unfortunately neither Apply nor LG are upfront about the PPI issue. For non retina displays, Mac OS looks best with display at or near 110 PPI. Ironically, running Windows on Apple OS w/Parallels and the display looked fine. Don’t be fooled by the 5k2k advertising. This display is only capable of 4k resolution. It’s labeled as “5k” because of the additional screen width, but it is not a true 5k monitor when considering the vertical pixels.

  6. Young

Thunderbolt port broke less than a month after purchase and am being told that there’s nothing they can do because it’s past their refund date.

  7. mddmx

Single cable thunderbolt, 5K and anti-reflective screen … what’s not to like. Driving it with Samsung laptop running windows 11. No issues at all

  8. batsrock

It took me two tries but I’m happy with this purchase.
The first monitor had issues with the thunderbolt ports. I was seeing suboptimal speeds when going through my 10gbe (100mbs). It also had issues staying connected.

Best Buy made it easy to swap the monitor and the second one has worked great. I’m seeing 500mbs through the 10gbe and I’m very pleased with the screen.

This is my work and pleasure monitor.
For work I deal with big spreadsheets a lot so the 40″ is perfect for the job!

For fun I do video and photo editing. Would it be nice to have a brighter screen for true HDR and more accurate color options. Sure. But this monitor fits my needs perfectly for work and fun.

  9. winjohn

Quality is 100 top notch!!!! No Complaints. Using M1 Macbook pro with it!

  10. Rodizell

This Monitor is a monster, I’m loving it! I do wish it did have more nits so everyone can quiet down about it and also allow for a poppier HDR display of movies if you watch movies on your MacBook Pro 2021 M1 Max.
I watch movies on my LG OLED so that not really a big deal for me! 5 Stars all the way for me! Love LG now, from a Plasma Panasonic guy!

  11. Jonathan

I love this monitor. Works flawlessly and is plug-and-play with my MacBook Air (M1, 2020).

    So much real estate!

  12. photoTed

The image is big and amazing. Apart from that obvious comment, I’m thrilled with the added features. With T-bolt 4 a single cable powers my laptop and provides a data connection to the monitor eliminating the need for a docking station to connect mouse, keyboard, camera, etc.

It’s connected to an HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook and works perfectly extending the desktop.

  13. Josh

I originally bought the 38″ 38wn95c and it worked with the 2021 macbook pro m1 pro 16″ with all the scalening options available, however the low resolution text didnt agree with my eyes. So i returned and got this 40″ 5k2k and wow the text and resolution is as clear as a 5k imac and yes all the scaling options are available for the macbook pro 2021 m1 pro. I am so glad I got this monitor! Its expensive especially since the 38″ is currently on sale for 350.00 off but for someone who likes to read this higher resolution monitor was a no-brainer even at 800 more price!

  14. yRoc8

Great monitor so far. I love all of the real estate for multiple windows.

  15. ValleyVista

love the video look and the low weight. Got good tech help from your tech staff. Would like to buy a 2nd one soon from Best Buy

  16. bl3h

Awesome monitor for my use: Mainly business and programming. Single cable connection to main computer with, built-in hub, and speakers makes this a great monitor, especially with the 5k/2k resolution. Being able to split the screen between two computers is a productivity boost. This isn’t a gaming monitor, and the speakers aren’t spectacular, but for my home office workstation – it perfectly gives me a clean, uncluttered desk (I needed to use a monitor arm, the monitor stand takes too much real estate).

  17. linny

Amazing monitor- so clear. Highly recommend this one

  18. BadBob

Love using this for all around use and specifically video editing. Has a good variety of picture profiles and simply/easily connects to my 2021 M1 MacBook Pro. It’s a pleasure to use and certainly beats the Mac Studio Monitor in every aspect except the 5K. Try it, you’ll like it.

  19. Satisfied

I was worried about jumping from a 27″ to a 40″ screen. Now I can’t imagine using anything less that the 40″. Text is clear, even when I switch to a small size. Curvature seems just right in allowing me to easily see information at the far sides. I’ve used it only a month and a half, so comments on durability have to wait. Annoyances: monitor takes several seconds to wake after I hit a key on the keyboard. To change speaker volume, must use the joystick at the base of the monitor – keyboard controls have no effect. All in all, I’m delighted with the monitor.

  20. MoiseJ

Great product! Was looking for 49 inch. But came across this with more vertical screen. And it’s futureproof.

  21. theHeg

Fantastic monitor to pair with my Mac Studio. What to love: 4k resolution, thunderbolt 4 connections, no power brick. One small complaint, no ability to control the speaker volume using Mac controls

  22. MikeM

I purchased the LG 40 Ultrawide 5k monitor as a replacement for two 27” 4k monitors.

I could not be happier with the my new setup.
Plus I don’t have to scale my display to 125%, thus loosing the vertical resolution.

I can now take full advantage of the 2160p vertical pixels.
It is much easier to do side-by-side code windows now without trying to work the windows around the split screen.

Not too happy about the cost. Since it is for my home office and I work mostly remote it was worth it.

  23. DanD

Personally, I am VERY picky about the resolution coming from a 5k iMac. I tried other non 5k2k’s and even with 2X resolution they just didn’t cut it.

So I was nervous and not sure it was even worth it for $1800… and I don’t think it is unless you really want or need the extra screen space as opposed to the Apple Studio Display.

For that reason it’s great. Text clarity is great. I have Mac Studio and set it to 3840 and sometimes 3360 if I want the text to be a little bigger.

Colors are great. It does seem dim at first, but I have gotten use to it. The brightness controls 50-100% have no change. So if you want to dim it, it really starts under 50%. So I run at 80-100% most of the time. I wish it could go a bit brighter for times during the day. But it’s alright.

If I had to pick a value I’d pay for it and not feel like it’s too much. I’d put it at $1200 instead of $1800 MSRP. Anything under $1000 would be an absolute steal.

However, if money is no object for you and you want the real estate. It’s probably the only choice we have that comes close to the clarity of the Apple Studio display. I don’t find myself feeling like I am missing out. It wakes up quickly. Using Monitor Control (GitHub version) and EasyRes(App Store) I can control volume and brightness from keyboard just the same.

  24. dbb426

Love this monitor…easy setup, spectacular viewing…it really is a great device. Only thing is its WIDE – so measure accordingly beforehand.

  25. Muggsy

This is a fantastic monitor. It will take some getting used to as you will need to adjust the icons at the higher resolutions. But you can see how beautiful it is… just wish my desk was as clean looking.

  26. HEES

To call this simply a monitor is like calling the Grand Canyon a hole in the ground. Its 40″ of curved beauty is perfect for simultaneously displaying multiple open windows. I had been worried it would be too big, but I’ve quickly gotten used to the size and now wouldn’t want anything smaller. I use this with a 2019 MacBook Pro and it displays marvelously while also acting as a superb docking station. I did have concerns that the low refresh rate wouldn’t work well for gaming, but for the types of games I play (Civilization VI, Europa Universalis, Victoria 3, etc.) I haven’t had any issues. Other games requiring higher refresh rates may get dicey, though. I also would recommend pairing this with Logitech’s MX Keys Advanced wireless keyboard.

  27. Wilf

As of writing this, this is the best ultrawide monitor money can buy. Yes, there are wider 49″ options, but they have significantly lower pixel density. This is as wide as you can go while still preserving great sharpness.

Colors are great. Curve is perfect for productivity. Ergonomics and adjustability are wonderful. Connectivity, with Thunderbolt 4, is top-notch (I’m using it on a Mac Studio with no problems.)

Only minor complaint is that the brightness tops out at 300 nits – not quite enough. On most days it’s fine, but when there’s a lot of sunlight coming into the room it can be a problem.

  28. ninose

Phenomenal screen! The size and resolution are stunning. Just wish the LG 40WP95C-W were a little bit brighter but definitely not a deal breaker. Most ultra-wide screens that size are 300 nits anyway. And after a while you don’t really notice the lower brightness except when compared to say a Mac Pro or iMac. Buy it, you’ll love it! No regrets here! I’m in love with this screen!

  29. MichaelR

Love it for my video editing and graphics work for my business.

  30. user157084

Monitor started flickering and had screen burn in after 19 days of use. Since it was past the 14 day return policy, best buy did not allow a return either. I am disappointed both in the product and the service. Will purchase electronics from a different store next time especially for more expensive units.

  31. Wlyellowjacket

This thing is amazing. Picture quality is amazing and all the room to get things done. Only problem I’ve seen is that you get your highest framereate using usb-c but you lose HDR capability. If you want HDR then you need to use HDMI but will be locked in at 60hz. Not a big deal for me but something I found out the hard way that took my a little while on how to fix it.

  32. Marc

Works flawlessly with 2018 15″ MacBook and thunderbolt supplied cable. Overall I LOVE this display. Display quality for normal office work is excellent. Nits keeping from 5 stars: (1) Monitor style is attractive for a designer office, except that the power cord doesn’t go through the tube of the stand and is visible. (2) I had to install LG’s OnScreen Control Start software on my Mac to control brightness/contrast from keyboard, but it is slow to open and requires multiple clicks to get to brightness/contrast. It doesn’t integrate with System Settings/Display. So un-integrated with MacOS now that everyone expects a superb UX. (3) The alternative is to use the single button under the monitor that requires about 6 clicks total to expose brightness/contrast and then exit the hierarchical menus — too time consuming.

  33. Charles

Perfect for my many projects and being able tosee everything I need to work on, on one screen so that I don’t have to keep minimizing and reopening screens. Greatest feature is the software the allows for screen control. This is a great thing to have because it has preset window division that allow you to snap windows into different grids. Very similar to the new windows 11 feature but this has more options and has been marvelous! YAAAAAAsss

  34. CTaylor

It works….looks great…screen doesn’t get super bright but it gets the job done still.

  35. CMDH

Tried a few Ultra Wides primarily for my MacBook Pro, but also wanted it to look good with my Windows desktop! The 5k resolution is incredible with both, and using something like easyRes on Mac makes this monitor so great looking at full 4k with retina!

Can fit so much more on my 1 monitor now for work and feel way more productive with video conference, without needing dual monitors any more. Email, code, browser, and terminal all on the screen at the same time, and totally legible in full 4k (or even 5k). Would recommend to remote workers or anyone who wants to be more product with one monitor instead of 2!!

  36. yellowboyee

I had been searching for an ultra-wide monitor for a while (there are a lot of options out there) and this monitor is amazing and meets all of my needs and expectations. I am not big on computer gaming so didn’t need a gaming-focused monitor; this LG one is geared more towards folks looking for a good productivity monitor (or those working in the creative space).

It is pretty sizable (so you will want to make sure your desk can accommodate it) and it is not the brightest monitor (but its not bad – I would say average on the brightness scale). However, the clarity, screen real estate and features (such as PBP) the monitor offers makes it a productivity powerhouse. Very happy with this purchase.

  37. Matt

This monitor is bright, has wide viewing angles, and very accurate colors.

It’s big enough to put a full IDE and display a full page in a web browser, or a full width terminal. You can also fit 3 word docs side by side.

Note that HDMI will not be able to drive the display at full resolution & refresh rate. Thankfully, both display port and Thunderbolt can, and having both makes this a nice display for those who have a personal PC but also want to connect a work laptop for work from home.

  38. DanielB

Its got some good features. Perfect for productivity. Not good for gaming and for watching shows.
There is glare on the screen. The resolution has trouble sometimes because of how odd the screen size is. You get black side bars for full screen videos and games. Games or videos can look stretched or like they are missing pieces.
I don’t think its worth the hefty price tag or the hefty weight.

  39. Moby

This 5k by 2k resolution monitor is everything you need for productivity purposes. the thunderbolt 4 port is a major plus. The only thing I’d say is the scaling in Mac’s. The 5k by 2k resolution makes the font very small so you’ll need to settle for other slightly lower resolutions, but this “problem” doesn’t exist on the windows side. Absolutely recommend this monitor

  40. NicolasS

This is my first ultra wide monitor and I’ve got to say that the productivity boost you get with the extra screen estate is amazing.

The monitor itself is quite bulky so check if your monitor accessories will properly fit.

I had to exchange my monitor within the exchange period due to speaker issues but Best Buy was quick with it.

Overall, screen is fantastic and works well when paired to Mac minus the scaling issues. I do wish the stand didn’t take so much desk space though but understandable considering the size of the monitor.

  41. DTLAMike

I’m using this display with a 16″ MacBook Pro (M2 Max). Purchased after doing a ton of research so I was prepared for some quirks – can’t control brightness or volume via keyboard, and the display can be a touch slow to reconnect when waking the MB from sleep. As many have stated it is not the brightest monitor but it works great in my workspace. I do video editing so spreading out a timeline in Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer is just great. For video calls I just hook my iPhone onto the top of the monitor and use Apple’s Continuity Camera feature. The resolution may not technically be “retina” but at normal working distance I can’t see the pixel structure and text looks very crisp. Highly recommended!

  42. Fantastic

Very pleased with the picture quality an the features

  43. neal

Can’t have dual with a Mac air so this is a great compromise. Text is super clear

  44. JamesB

I was using a 27″ nano glass apply display and another 27″ thunderbolt display. I was getting tired of having to look from one to the other when working. I love the LG 40″ because it’s all on one screen, the resolution is great, and it’s easy to use. I can have my applications open, check my email, have several menus open and work with ease. The only downside is the speakers arent’t that great. It doesn’t have built in camera, but I rarely use one anyway.

  45. JamesW

Beautiful modestly curved 21:9 screen. Pricey but the best for the price.

  46. Eddie

I just came from a 34″ ultrawide (3440p). I Love that monitor, but found myself wanting more height for coding work and for reading documentation. The extra pixels really do shine here for when you’re needing the width and height.

The picture quality is the best I’ve ever had on a monitor, bar none.

When I’m not working, I’ll sometimes use my xbox series X on it — still amazing picture. I would 100% recommend this monitor to anyone looking for a little more height and higher resolution than your typical ultrawide monitor.

I’m driving this with a 2021 MacBook Pro (M1) with absolutely zero issues.

  47. JohnD

What a great screen to view. Very clear and detailed. I like the split screen use

  48. MikeS

Great viewing resolution, only downfall is the refresh rate, but for a workstation it’s fine. Brightness is just good enough for a semi bright room
