I bought this as part of a kitchen remodel. It fit perfectly where the old vent fan was installed. Not too difficult to install. The multiple fan and light settings are great. You can even purchase a remote, although I’m not sure why someone would… 🙂

Great once you get the bugs worked out. Installation was simple enough but after turning it on the first time the fan was making a horrible noise. Had to take it back down to figure out the problem – the squirrel-cage fan was rubbing on the motor mount bracket above it. The fan is held on the motor shaft with a concentric friction clamp/nut, and if the nut isn’t tightened enough the fan can slide up the shaft – and hit the motor mount. Simple solution is loosen the nut and slide the fan a very small amount down the shaft so it no longer rubs, and tighten the nut back down. Unfortunately this is not mentioned in the troubleshooting guide, which it absolutely should be since it is common in the reviews.
Happy with it now that I’ve fixed it.

The GE 30″ convertible range hood took a little longer that the advertised 10 minutes to install, but the installation process was actually quite simple. To reduce the heat signature from the hood lights, the halogen bulbs were switch out to compatible 35 watt LED bulbs. Works perfect!

This is a great vent hood, but the installation in my situation was not as easy as the instructions stated. It took 2 of us to get it hung under the cabinets, and we had to install some gasket material at the vent connection. Otherwise it was a simple install, and it looks great, and works very well.

This one has physical buttons and works well. Not exactly rocket science to make a hood vent.
DO NOT BUY the GE model with the touch sensors. I cannot describe the nightmare that was to replace because those buttons simply wouldn’t work.

I’d like to write you with a recent terrible experience with the JVX 5300.
We just tried to install it. My husband does mechanical installations on yachts for a living, so it should have been straightforward.
The fan was crooked — rubbing on the housing – attached with a stripped out screw. He fixes that – seemed easier than a return – and an hour later – the hood is screwed in. Won’t work. Turns out a black power wire wasn’t attached to anything inside the hood. Without a wire diagram, not included, there’s no way to try to correctly attach it. It left the factory without even being correctly assembled for installation.
So, while the parts were all included – technically – it was assembled at the factory in such a haphazard and zero quality control way – its impossible to install and is defective.
Very disappointed with the product. It is unbelievable that the GE name is on it.

Looks nice. Fingerprints clean off easily. Bright light. Only good things about this! Like others have said, fan is on left side not centered. Doesn’t make any sense why they’d do that. Whenever I cook on right side of stove it doesn’t suck the air out properly. Have had less than 2 years and the motor stopped working. My last fan lasted 16 years! Not even 2 for this. Buy another brand!

This did not come with a cord. Called parts and they said they didn’t make the cord anymore. Called GE appliances and they had the cord we could purchase. How do you sell a product that you don’t make the cord for anymore? We didn’t have the option to hard wire.
The item itself is quite nice. Its a nice size, quiet and easy to use. The lights are bright but get hot. Once we got the cord we were happy with the purchase.

This is the worst. The ventilation part is fine. It’s the lights. First of all, they are halogen which make it hot and take way more energy than an LED. The worst part is that they are impossible to change! Good luck even getting the bulbs out let alone replacing them. The wires become unattached from the housing when you get the bulb out making it absolutely impossible to get the new bulb in. There is no way to get into the unit. I was able the first time to get GE to fix it because it was still under warranty. The second time, they want to charge me $138 just to look at it – not even change the bulb. So you have to schedule a service appointment and pay hundreds of dollars just to get a light bulb changed. Buyer beware!

Easy install. Looks nice. Plenty of suction power. Fairly quite on low power. Pretty loud on high power! There’s a one-way flapper valve at the exit to the duct that rattles quite a bit on high power.

Looks great with our new stainless steel stove. I really like the closed bottom. Lights are nice and there are 2 levels. Quieter than the hood we replaced.
We are using it as ductless, but like the fact that we can convert it to vent outside at a later time.

We have it installed as a ventless over a range. Even when it’s on high it doesn’t suction any air into the filters. As a matter of fact, it feels like the fan is blowing down not drawing air up. See the flame being blown when held up to the fan and the smoke not going up just staying around the napkin when held down by the cooktop. All recommendations for distance were followed. It’s worse when you put in the charcoal filter. Don’t waste your money, we’ll be buying a different one. The lights work well.

Love this hood so much! Extremely quiet even on the high setting. I love the dimmable lights, however I wish they were a cooler white color, will be switching them out. I also wish this came with the charcoal filter, had to purchase separately and it makes a huge difference! Overall though extremely happy with this purchase!

Two seperate ubits, one came with our home and the second we purchased here. The first one the light were dangling out, so i bought a new model and one of the two light bulbs didnt make over 4 hours.
