  1. TECHBEENGOOD

The checklist for a successful pour-over, coffee-making experience must include a way to heat up the water in a manner that is accurate and repeatable. If you’ve done this before, you know that a controlled, slow pour of the heated water is a critical feature. This Fellow Stagg EKG pour-over kettle is an attractive counter-top appliance that we’re adding to our kitchen tool kit.

The Fellow Stagg EKG kettle has the simplest of controls which includes (viewed from the front):
1- an LCD readout on the left,
2- a POWER switch with dial-in temperature setting on the right, which also has a stop watch function,
3- a Fahrenheit/Celcius slide switch on the rear left panel, (set and forget)
4- A slide switch on the rear right panel switch which HOLDS or maintains the desired temperature for an hour. (you can probably set and forget this, too.)

Operation requires FILLing the kettle with water up to the MAX line, setting the temperature and waiting for the 1200 watt heater to do its thing. It’s fast and, if you’ve set the hold, it maintains the water temperature for the hour. This is where the Stagg EKG design makes your coffee predictable and repeatable. The spout design means it is virtually impossible to pour too fast. We found the speed is just right and controlling the flow is easy. The kettle capacity at the MAX line was sufficient to fill almost 4, 8oz coffee cups.

The EKG has a nice balance to it which helps compensate for the tilt required to get the hot water flowing. The lid fits snugly so it’s not popping off. You will need to be careful with the vent holes, which, though they are off to one side, sends steam toward the knob. It wasn’t a problem, because we don’t fuss with the cap while pouring.

This is a lovely addition to the pour-over coffee-making process. It looks good while improving our coffee. It helps make us look like we know what we’re doing. We can endorse that.

I wasn’t too sure of this kettle, after using a much larger different brand for years. The two things that concerned me most were water capacity and the lack of an indicator when it has come to temperature.

I use this for making aero press coffee, and funny enough neither concern is an issue. It can hold almost 1 liter of water, and is so fast that I don’t miss a beep when it comes to temperature. This fits into my routine really well. I can start the kettle, grind coffee and prepare the aero press. By the time I’m ready for the water, it is usually done.

Setting the temp with the dial is simple and I like that is is very obvious if the kettle is heating or not. The hold feature is also nice. I haven’t used the brew timers, but I’m sure some people will really like that.

The best thing about this kettle is the design. I love leaving it out on the counter, sort of ridiculous to say but it does seem like a functional piece of art.

The one thing I found annoying is that the font and size of the text in the instructions are almost unreadable, but it easy to figure out and the directions are online.

I was impressed the moment I first saw the Fellow-Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle. It is elegantly beautiful, yet so sophisticated in its simplicity. It was a must have for me, and I am so pleased I decided to get it. I chose the matte-black version because the rest of my appliances are black and stainless. This kettle adds that extra little pizazz to my kitchen.

Out of the box it is ready to use after a quick cleaning. I have to say that the kettle feels so substantial in your hands. This is no cheaply made piece of tin disguised to look classy…it’s the real deal. I chose my favorite tea and decided to try the kettle out. First, it is truly just a matter of turning it on and setting the temperature. I certainly don’t presume to lecture anyone on the effects of proper temperature in a brew, but I learned long ago that we typically heat our coffee and tea at too high of a temperature, resulting in a bitter tasting brew. I was definitely surprised when I first tasted the difference after brewing at a much lower temperature.

After filling the kettle with water, I pushed a button and waited. It began heating immediately. Within a very short time, the water had heated to 177 degrees, the temperature I chose. I had a kitchen thermometer handy and tested to see how close it was. A perfect 177 degrees. The kettle will remain at the same temperature until the kettle turns itself off, after one hour. For coffee brewing, there is a timer that allows you to measure your pour to obtain the perfect brew.

I then poured the water from the kettle to brew my tea. There are a couple of very important things to note here…first, it’s a slow pouring kettle. I understand this is necessary to ensure the perfectionists can pour the water perfectly. But nonetheless, it is slow pour. This leads to the second thing to note…because those of us (who simply want a perfectly heated cup of water) aren’t too concerned about pouring according to connoisseur guidelines, the tendency is to tip the kettle in order to speed up the pour. YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE HOLES IN THE LID ARE FACING THE BACK OF THE KETTLE! Otherwise hot water will pour from the holes in the lid and possibly scald you. I made this mistake, but fortunately did not get scalded. Just for the sake of saying I timed the brew, I did follow the 2 1/2 minute timer, and then took out the tea leaves. It was an amazing cup of Earl Gray tea.

When it is all said and done, the question must be asked if the Fellow- Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle warrants what many would consider to be a lot for a hot water kettle. For me, the answer is an astounding YES. There is no guessing about the temperature, there is no question about how long to brew, and there is no reheating water on the stove if you want another cup of coffee or tea, seeing as the kettle will maintain your set temperature for an hour. By the way, the kettle shut off after 58 minutes. Not bad.

So, to sum this review up, I would absolutely and highly recommend that you purchase the Fellow – Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle if you want to begin truly having a coffee or tea drinking experience as opposed to simply having a cup of coffee or tea. It is worth every penny you spend!

  4. Androidaholic

The Fellow – Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle is a great example of a small kitchen appliance done right. With the simple push-button/ dial on the right and the round aesthetically matching LCD screen on the left getting your water the right temperature for a great pour-over of freshly ground coffee beans of your choice has never been easier. Mine came defaulted to Fahrenheit which is great for me but you can switch it to Celsius if that is your preference. Other than that just set the warmer to 60 minutes or less depending on your use scenario and morning routine perhaps and you are ready to have this sleek little kettle as part of your daily routine or perhaps a weekend special occasion coffee adventure trying different fresh beans. While this kettle may be aimed squarely at the fresh coffee pour over market lets not forget that there are many other uses in a variety of food preparation situations where it will also come in very handy. Boiling water at precise temperatures is a very useful option to have in your arsenal of small kitchen appliances. This Fellow – Stagg EKG Electric Pour Over is a well executed piece of artistic kitchen appliance that can come in handy for the coffee pour over expert or for other things like making some instant mashed potatoes or ramen noodles. It is a little pricey I suppose but I have not seen anything else that does what The Fellow does while doing it with such simplified elegance. I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for such a device!

  5. WesternSky

This is an ultra-modern looking kettle and I was excited to unpack it and put it through the paces. My household has a few coffee connoisseurs and tea drinkers within, so this product is a welcomed edition to our kitchen,

After an initial cleaning with a little soap and water we were off to the races. The unit itself is driven by 1200 watts of power and brings water to a boil in a snap. It does not have an overly large capacity, but with the speed of heating water it should not be a factor for the need of additional cups of hot water.

It has a digital display of the water temperature and also has a 60 minute “hold” function. This is especially nice for those times that you wish to top off your tea or brew another coffee and not have to wait for the water to re-boil.

The unit has an ergonomic handle which feels great in your hand. I found that my thumb had a tendency to wander close to and touch the polished chrome ring of the kettle itself which is hot. I do have large hands so a word to the wise, do ensure you grasp the handle carefully. It is for this safety reason, that my rating was downgraded to a 4 star.

When you actually pour the hot water after the brew cycle is complete, it is a slow process since the neck of spout is rather thin in diameter. It will take you some extra time to complete your pour.

In closing, this is a beautiful kettle. It comes with some nice features, is comfortable to hold and looks great in my kitchen. So far I’m pretty happy with this kettle.

  6. Janine

This Fellow Electric Kettle is quite simply, pretty to look at. It seems right ‘at home’ on my kitchen counter, along with my other coffee (and tea) brewing small household appliances.

As a coffee, and tea, aficionado I know that different coffees and teas may “require” (or are best brewed at) different water temperatures, and for tea specific steeping times. So this Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle seemed like just the thing.

This electric kettle is simple to use. Just press the dial to turn the kettle on, and set your exact desired temperature via the LCD display. Min/max temp ranges from 135°F to 212°F. There are two switches on the base unit – to choose between Fahrenheit and Celsius, as well as, a Hold mode which keeps the water hot at your chosen temp for 60 minutes. There’s also a Stopwatch feature for timing your coffee and tea brews. Just press and hold that same dial, then turn the knob to set the desired length of time.

I found that the water heated up really, really fast. However, while the fluted spout is beautiful and elegant, I did find that while pouring – even though I was being careful – water trickled down along the outside of the kettle, leaking out the lid (yes I had the lid secured properly, and the vent holes were positioned upwards). That said, the matte textured handle is great, providing a strong, solid grip.

Included with the kettle is a handy, and helpful, ‘Feature and Brew Guide’.

If you’re a coffee, and tea, connoisseur this Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle may just be the one for you!

  7. LongRX7

The Fellow – Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle is quite a stunning counter appliance. The black kettle has a timeless elegant look. The metal exterior makes it more durable and not cheap looking. It goes from 0 to 212 degrees in about 3 minutes and has an hour temperature hold. It also has adjustable temperature settings for steeping loose leaf teas. We normally steep loose leaf teas at 175 for 4 mins.
The strength of the Fellow – Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle is also it’s weakness. Since it has an elegant metal exterior, it does get hot and retains the exterior heat, which I wouldn’t recommend it for use where children might have access to it.
Highly recommend it for responsible adults. It does what is intended to do VERY well and quick. It looks elegant in black metal. Recommend the Fellow – Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle for a responsible household.

  8. ViperElectric

This review is going to be quick because well let’s be honest it’s a pot that boils water so there is not that many things that can be said. However, the things that are worth mentioning make this kettle worth the purchase in my mind.

First off let’s start with the design. It’s simple clean and easy to store on a counter without it being an attention-grabbing centerpiece. Perfect for those of us who just want the perfect temperature water for our coffee.

The thing is super easy to use plug it in make sure there is water in the pot and then click the dial to turn it on. Rotate the dial to choose a temperature and let it do its thing. It’s super easy and it lets you pick the temperature down to the degree which some other pots won’t let you do. This is key for good pour over as you don’t necessarily want boiling water every time depending on the coffee and the brew process.
Otherwise it has a nice hold feature to keep water hot, this is nice if your making more than one pot or cup of coffee and need the water to stay the same temp between processes.

So, the quick and easy is, it looks good, it works great, and the gooseneck lets you pour water precisely and easily exactly where you need it.

  9. Clshipp91

This is not your average kettle. If you’re used to just heating you water with a normal kettle this will blow you away and will really make a difference in your coffee or tea drinking experience.

What makes it great: this kettle works like other kettles by rapidly heating up water for a nice pour over coffee or tea, but the dial lets you select an exact temperature to heat the water, down to the degree. This makes a huge difference since the temperature of the water vastly affects the flavor and taste of different teas and coffees.

All you do is turn the dial to the Temp you want the water and press down on the dial. The kettle will heat the water lightning fast and rather than turning off, will hold that temp for an hour, letting you come back and make multiple cups.

The kettle pours incredibly well. It lets out a steady even stream that is easy to control and never gets too strong. I even tried to pour out the water fast, but this kettle has been designed to prevent and sudden splashes and give you the optimal pour.

The build and look are second to none. It looks amazing, very sleek and well finished. The met black looks clean and doesn’t pick up finger prints at all. The kettle and lid fit together perfectly creating a very good seal that feels high quality.

Other than the dial and temperature screen on the base of the kettle, there are two switches that let you switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit and another to turn the heater hold on and off. Everything feels perfectly build with purpose and works great every time.

I’ve never seen a kettle quite like this and am immediately sold. If you are the kind of person who wants the best cup of coffee or tea, this is for you.

  10. Tatumcakez

The Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle is an absolute dream. For years now, I have been heating water on a stovetop kettle and this is a game changer. My favorite brewing technique is French Press, calling for water temperature of 195 degrees Fahrenheit. To achieve near this degree, I would let the kettle boil and then wait 5 minutes prior to brewing figuring the water had cooled off some by that point – primitive and not ideal. With the Stagg EKG, I can dial in 195 and there we go, water heated to my desired temperature and ready to brew! With my recently roasted, freshly ground coffee beans and proper temperature water, my french press brews have been delectable with no undesired acidity.

Having an electric kettle, not only allows for temperature choice but also ease of heating. With being on an electric plate water preparation can occur anywhere at any time as long as electricity is available! The kettle itself has a beautiful matte finish, presenting well in a kitchen or on a cabinet, desk, or more. There is a raised area on the plate that allows for the kettle to fit over, providing stability (and the warming unit). A simple design, that is crisp and efficient. To use the kettle, you are not boggled down by multiple buttons wondering what each one does; rather, there is one display and one dial from which controls are accessed. And then a toggle for holding capability and Celsius or Fahrenheit. Simple and elegant once again.

The other aspect of the kettle is that it is designed for Pour-Over brewing. This aspect is achieved with another elegant feature, the fluted spout tip. For the kettle, the long slender tip is an aesthetic with wonderful use. First off, if pouring into a cup or other container the smaller opening allows for precision. Where does this precision come into play also? Pour-over brewing. I have had the opportunity to dabble in pour-over brewing, and with a previous kettle would just dump on water even with attempts at control. The Stagg EKG allows for gentle balance of the pour. There is also a built in brew stopwatch to assist in needs. The included paperwork also has the Fellow method for pour over outlined! A great assist for one new to coffee brewing.

This kettles use is not limited to coffee either! I am also a tea connoisseur, with over 100 types of loose leaf tea. I had been eyeing an electric tea kettle to more precisely brew but was debating what level of investment to make – once again, the Stagg EKG is the perfect decision. With tea type brewing being temperature dependent, I am no longer just hitting my tea leaves with hot water and hoping for the best. Now, I can brew using precise temperature water and time resulting in the envisioned brew of the tea maker.

A quick side-note is that the instructions mention to not submerge the kettle into water for cleaning. I assume this is important to not mess up the electric aspects of the device. I just wanted to take a moment to harp on this instruction, as I had a self-heating mug that I damaged the control unit during cleaning. So be careful, and follow the specific care instructions to avoid and mishaps. With fancy electronics, come proper use instructions!

For both coffee and tea, the Stagg EKG facilitates obtaining the proper temperature water to reach the desired brew. May this be more or less acidic, strength, or flavor. Water temperature plays a crucial role in beverage preparation and this kettle does the trick! Plus, no need for microwave or stove but rather water and an electric plug!

  11. Maddie

This looks so elegant and doesn’t take up much space on counter.

It heats up very quickly and you set the temp up to 212. It shuts off by itself after 15 minutes or you can turn it off anytime manually. But you have the option hold the temp for an hour.

We’ve been using it most days for coffee and for tea. This is convenient to use too. It pours nicely with no spills.

  12. Naztynestor

My fiancé had her eyes on this Fellow STAGG electric kettle and we finally have it! we drink a lot of warm tea at night, pouring hot water from Fellow electric kettle is way faster than warming a pot of hot water with a kettle using the stove, first time owning an electric kind but I could why she wanted this particular brand, the look is very modern/ simplistic and for me it looks elegant. from the box you get the main kettle it self and the warmer station for it. the kettle and the warmer have a matted black look to it, with a very thin pointed tip. the warmer station literally on have one button, you can press it to turn it on, turn it left and right to change your temperature all the way max of 212 F. on the left you have the LED lights that shows the current temperature of the kettle and for keeping the warmer on it will hold it on that temperature as well. again for me it’s so simple and such an amazing product that i’ve started to love from the past few days of using it.

i’ve tested to see how fast it will reach certain temperature, having 200F as the temperature goal, the kettle got there in 47 seconds. that’s crazy quick! I decided to test the kettle on my 4th day of having it. and this time with more water inside. for this test I wanted to check how fast it will reach the max temperature of 212F. from 75F to 212F the warmer took 2 minutes and 39 seconds. it’s so impressive considering it takes more than 5 minutes on regular kettle using gas stove.
pouring hot water out from the kettle was also been an amazing experience for us, you get zero spills from this electric kettle. the design is amazing it’s well thought out spilling issues with this was definitely on their high list because anybody want a hot water spilling out when you pour. if you’re into simplistic look that delivers i’d highly recommend you Fellow STAGG Electric Kettle, this will get heavy uses in my house hold.

  13. Anthony

I ended up purchasing this product because of the built quality. This is definitely an art peace with practical use. Heats up water instantly and durability is top dollar

  14. redderr

I love the design and accurate temperature control, warming feature and the temperature consistency. The ability to get the correct temperature both for my coffee brew and loose tea leaves is necessary to get that reproducible results each time with no fuss.
The kettle has a very controlled pour over spout with no aggressive pour out if your liquid and no spills or drips. A beautiful rewarding experience. The only drawback is it is a bit costly and so my first experience in this tyoe of kettle but other the expense, it is such an improvement over my old pour out at once kettle and no temperature control.

  15. NyVetteGuy

I was very excited to get the Stagg EKG Kettle as the most important thing to me is tea and coffee that are at the proper temperature.
Operation is simple as plugging it in and turning it on.
Once you add water, turn on, set the desired temp and within just over 5 minutes your water is ready to go, lower temps will be reached at quicker times, I tested for the max at 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
You can also set a hold temp that will be held for up to 60 minutes. If you don’t set a hold time the kettle will only maintain temp for 5 minutes.
Overall I think this is a great kitchen addition.
The only complaint I have is there is no beep or noise to let you know you have reached your desired temp, otherwise it’s perfect.
Pics are of the Stagg EKG and of the timer indicating the amount of time it took to get to 212 degrees.

  16. Iluvgadgets

This is the cutest little kettle. Looks very elegant. It heats water very quickly. Great foe making instant coffee and tea. It is a solid brushed metal/steel. Very nice . I love the push button feature. Love it!!

  17. SUHD

Stylish, good looking electric kettle with a classic elegant look, yet modern features. The simple, yet functional design of the base has an LCD display for the temperature read out and a knob to adjust the water heating temperature that goes up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Once it reaches the desired temperature which is pretty quick, you can press the knob down to “hold” the temperature for up to 60 minutes. You can also press and hold the dial to enable the StopWatch feature for timing your brewing.

If you’re in a rush to get a big mug of coffee fix in the morning, this kettle may not be for you. First of all, it only holds just under 1L of water. It’s really meant for those coffee connoisseurs who like to take their time and experiment making the perfect brew. The fluted gooseneck spout is a big part of the allure of this kettle, but it’s a very small diameter on purpose, to allow you to pour very slowly and with effortless precision. Don’t tilt the kettle more in hopes to pour faster – that will not help – instead you will probably spill some boiling hot water from the top lid. Also, the exterior surface tends to get pretty hot, so make sure only to hold it from its beautiful, ergonomically designed handle.

If you enjoy taking your time making fancy coffee in the morning or the weekend and can afford the relatively high price tag, the Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle is the one for you.

  18. ExcellentEducator

As a person who loves antiques, tea, and nostalgia this beauty certainly answers the call to all three. I love the design of this kettle as it has an 18th-century look to it; but most importantly, I love using it to drink hot tea. The flavors of peppermint and chai are my two favorite teas. This kettle does a great job of heating a great hot cup of tea. I am equally excited about fall and winter as I know I will utilize this kettle frequently.

  19. SimpleLiving

I am very pleased with this kettle. For starters, I love its minimalist, modern design. It is also super easy to use and gives me so much control over the water temperature. I am especially excited for its 60 minute hold feature because sometimes there are things you need to do in between preparing the perfect cup of coffee and tea that take longer than expected. The water will not get cold if I take a few extra minutes to finish what I am doing. I also love how quickly the water heats up in the kettle. It is just very convenient and efficient. Moreover, the Fahrenheit and Celsius feature is super helpful, especially when following a recipe and specific and precise temperatures are needed. The water pours so smoothly! Honestly, I do not have any complaints or concerns about this kettle. It does not overheat, and it makes making a delicious cup of coffee or tea super easy. In a household of coffee and tea lovers, this kettle is wonderful!

  20. cad8099

i love having this kettle. its pretty fast when compared to other ways to heat up water and you can get it to your temp you want. i enjoy a cup of tea now and then and i dont like it to hot but still warm. microwave is what i used before but hard to get that right temp. either to cold or to hot.

this you can set the temp to what you want. and it takes less then 2 and a half minutes. so not to long to wait. also love how it looks.

has a lcd light on the side to let you know what the temp is.

also great for cup of noodles.

overall love it and recommend it if you are looking at getting a kettle as well.

  21. MikeyJFla

If you are looking to get a electric kettle for pour over coffee, tea, or any use that needs temperature controlled hot water, I highly recommend this kettle.

Operation is very simple. Before you start, make sure to adjust the C / F control at the back (since it defaults to C). Once the unit is plugged in, rotate the knob on the right to set the desired temperature.

I did a quick test, and it took about 3:30 to bring 4 cups of cold water to 190F. The gooseneck spout makes it easy to control the amount of liquid that comes out.

  22. Snarltoof

I’ve seen kettles shaped kind of like this, but I’ve never used one before. Now I get it. The long slender spout makes it easy to control the water flow, so you get the best out of your pour-over coffee. You deliver hot water to the grounds without puddling, flooding, or splashing, then the bloom forms, and my coffee turned out strong but not bitter. I’m totally impressed with how that simple change can affect the quality of the coffee.
What’s really cool is you can set the target water temperature so it’s exactly where you want it when you pour. I like heating my water to 205; that gives me a hot cup of coffee when it’s done brewing.
There’s also a timer so you can measure just how much time you want to pour your coffee or to let it sit.

  23. Mistabritt

Received my Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour Over Kettle a week or so ago and and have been using it for the last few days and we’re very impressed with its performance. First off the design and quality of this kettle is simply amazing. It’s very sleek and matches everything in our kitchen and on our countertop. The soft matte finish looks very nice, however, it could possibly be easily scratched so be careful with what you use when cleaning it.

This kettle is very easy to use. Simply plug in the base to an outlet and set the switches on the back to Fahrenheit or Celsius, and the hold button. Then fill the kettle to the max line which is just below the handle on the inside. Place the lid and set it on the base. Next push down on the button and turn the temp dial to your liking which the highest temp is 212 degrees on the easy to read digital display. Then simply wait for about 4 minutes. We were amazed at how quickly the water heated up and was ready for our morning coffee (if you’re using instant coffee or fresh grounded coffee) and our tea. I prefer tea sometimes instead of coffee in the morning and this works so much better for me.

This kettle heated up much faster than I expected, which means it was way faster than a standard stove kettle. It’s very easy to use and the design as I stated earlier to just nice. I recommend this to anyone looking for a nice kettle in this price range or it could be purchased as a gift for someone.

  24. emiliosic

This kettle is much form as it is functional.
Let’s just say it looks great (And it comes in several color options), so it’s something people would like to ‘show off’ in the kitchen.

The base is a perfect square, very minimalistic with a matrix display on one corner that is barely noticeable when off, and a single control knob on the other. On the rear of the base there’s the power cable and two switches: One for the hold function and other for the F/C reading setting.

The kettle is all metal, except for its base where it holds the heating element, and the handle is a high-quality plastic (for my black model) or real wood for other color options. The manufacturer also sells replacement handles in walnut or maple if you feel like splurging on a wooden handle.

The gooseneck design and the balanced handle allows for a very precise and steady pouring. This design manages to make it comfortable to hold while pouring, and the narrow gooseneck lets pour the right volume of water.

The precise temperature control is incredible, with precision up to a single degree. It uses a ‘PID Controller’, which is a system used in industrial applications. Basically, it continuously measures the current water temperature and adjusts the power level appropriately to reach the target temperature, without ‘overshooting’ like conventional kettles.

Why is this precision important? Coffee burns acid at the boiling temperature of 212 degrees, but is much less acid if brewed around 190-195 F.
So this kettle is ideal for pour over, which is basically pouring the coffee beans into a (paper) filter, let it bloom with a bit of water (this is key to control acidity), wait about 30 seconds to let the beans air out the acid chemicals and then slowly pour in circles for an even brew, into a decanter or mug.

I can now consistently get brew my coffee without heartburn and tastes great.

The hold function (switch on the back) sets it to keep the water temperature for up to 1 hour.
Also note that holding on the knob activates a brewing stopwatch. They though of everything.

Now the tea drinker in the house also loves this kettle, so much that we put away the tea kettle and just use this exclusively. The temperature control also works great for different teas that need to brew at different temperatures (212 F for black tea also works great with this kettle).

There are a couple of considerations however: Because it’s all metal, the body of the kettle gets uncomfortably hot, and particularly, the cover has vent holes so it gets too hot to remove without using kitchen mittens. Also pressing the on button sometimes does not turn on the kettle. I found that pressing the button, lifting the kettle and pressing it again works. Not sure if this quirk is a safety feature, but I did not find an explanation for it on the manual.

Overall, if you’re nearly obsessed about good coffee, a precision kettle makes a big difference, and reduces the acidity of the brewed coffee, and let’s be honest, it looks great.

This electric kettle is great! It does not take up much counter room and has a very sleek design. It is easy to turn on and select the temperature. I like my coffee and tea hot so it’s great that it has a wide temperature range. The best part of this kettle is by far the spout – the design is perfect for controlling the pour speed and location. You would have a hard time spilling hot water all over using this kettle. I really like this kettle – a great addition to my counter.

This is not a need item but it is nice to have. The pour is steady for my Chemex Pour-Over. This kettle does not need to be tilted much to have the water come out. The pour will require a patience, however getting the water to the desired temp does not. Cold water/from tap was brought to my desired temp of 203degrees in just under 5mins. Tipping the kettle over too much will not increase the flow from the spout and only cause water to dribble out of the cap. This is meant to have a steady pour to adequately soak your grinds and not scorch it. The handle is cool to the touch and with water in the kettle it feels balanced at a slight tip. The walls will be hot so use caution and only grab the kettle by the handle. The temperature display is great to have and the temp hold feature is convenient as well. My better half can have the water hot for her tea even when she gets sidetracked with our child.

I don’t believe this item to be something that will save significant time when brewing coffee or tea. If you are looking for a kettle to make a quick batch of coffee or tea, I don’t think this product is for you. I still use my standard coffee maker for my weekday mug. This Kettle pairs very nicely with my Chemex and French Press and are really only used for weekend duty when I have time to draw out a nice pot of coffee.

This is a great kettle. The single button to control temperature makes it super easy to use. Heats up quickly and stays hot for way longer than you’d need it to. If you are shooting for a specific temperature, this one can do that for you too. It is very stylish looking as well.

The only thing I noticed that I wouldn’t have expected was the cover is not liquid tight. If you tip it, it will pour out the top. That is only a minor issue though.

During the week we use an automatic coffee maker. We are usually in a hurry and like the speed and simplicity of the push button super-automatic machine. On the weekends we get out the pour over and or French Press paraphernalia and enjoy a more gourmet experience. My first thought when getting this is that it is smaller and lighter than the large copper kettle we keep on the cooktop. With the smaller size and lighter weight it is much easier to have the recommended slow pour with the pour over makers. With the long thin spout we can more precisely direct the water where it needs to go to encourage the “bloom”. We both find ourselves much more willing to pour slowly than we did with our heavy kettle. Neither of us had ever considered using a precise temperature for different beverages and brewing methods before. We either used the temp the brewer was set on or just poured the kettle after it boiled. This kettle allows us to set a precise temperature and shows us the temperature as it warms. We have used the recommended temps that came with the kettle instructions for different beverages and found that the not yet boiling water makes a better cup of coffee and the lower temps make quite a difference with some of our teas. There is also a hold switch on the unit that will keep the water at the designated temperature if you desire. When I got this kettle I thought it would be a cool gadget for our weekend pour over and French press coffee. I have been surprised that we both use it daily.

The Fellow Stag EKG is an electric kettle designed for coffee drinkers who want to use a pour-over method. I myself am not a coffee drinker, but my partner is a bit of a coffee aficionado. I do tend to be the one that makes the coffee, and apparently I do a solid job of it. Prior to using the Stagg we used several coffee prep methods – traditional drip, French press, Keurig pods, cappuccino machine, and pour over. We had just started trying the pour-over style a few weeks before getting the Stagg because we were gifted a pour-over carafe.

Prior to the Stagg I used a regular electric kettle with a spout at the top. My results were mixed because it was difficult to control the flow and the weight of the kettle made it even more difficult. My batches were hit and miss, so I was happy to change things up and try out the Stagg.

My first impression with pulling the Stagg out of its box was that it was very well made. The matte black finish looked striking, and the overall design is aesthetically pleasing. The heater base is also well designed and simple. I set it up on my countertop, and I really liked the look – this is an appliance that doesn’t need to be hidden away when not in use because it looks sharp. The handle is sturdy and very well attached to the kettle body. The shape of the handle is also ergonomically designed to help you balance the kettle as you pour it. The lid for the kettle fits snugly into the opening, and doesn’t feel like it would pop out while pouring. The spout comes from the bottom of the kettle where the water is the hottest – this also means it starts pouring with a small amount of tipping, and it doesn’t slosh. The flow of the water coming out of the spout is very smooth, so you won’t be splashing water about as you pour.

Heating up the water is a pretty easy task. I usually fill up the cup that will be used and dump that into the kettle, and then add a little extra for wastage. After that you pop the lid on and drop it onto the base. The base has 3 buttons to interact with – 2 can be found by reach to the back and then the main knob. When reach to the back the button slider on the left changes from Fahrenheit to Celsius, and the other sets the temperature hold. The main knob controls the set temp – range is from 104-212 °F. The help documents say the ideal temp setting for coffee is 195-205 °F. After bringing the water up to temp you press and hold the knob down for a few seconds to start a countdown timer from 3. Once the timer starts you begin your pour. The guide tells you to pour a certain amount based on how much coffee you added, and then wait 30 seconds for the coffee to bloom. From there it tells you to continue your pour over the next 2.5-3 minutes. You can vary this time based on how strong you want your coffee to come out. While you are doing this the digital readout screen is keeping time for you, so you can maintain a consistent pace.

I found that the kettle could heat up a mostly full pot from 115 °F tap water to 200 °F in about 2ish minutes, so pretty quick to be honest. The kettle itself is easy to handle even though it has a sturdy weight to it. I did find myself getting a bit tired pouring a big multi-cup carafe, but only because I did it on my kitchen countertop, which made me have to raise the kettle higher to pour. When I moved the operation to my kitchen table I had a better height advantage and could maintain a much easier pour for a full 3-4 cup carafe. The coffee I was able to make for my GF came out great. I had been dialing in the pour times to get it to the strength she likes. She likes to add a splash of creamer and whipped cream, and I add a little chocolate sauce drizzle for her. I brewed the coffee at 200 °F, and that combined with the creamer made the drink the perfect temp to be able to sip it right away without it being scalding hot. This was a big plus for her because the temp control on the drip and Keurig can sometimes be a little hot, so she has to wait a few minutes for it to cool off. I also used the Stagg to heat up water to use in our French press, which has made that experience even better as well due to the ability to precisely control the temperature. Overall, when rating her coffee experience she ranks the pour over with the Stagg at the top. It gave the best/strongest/most consistent cup out of our array of coffee making gadgets. The drip still makes a great cup and is the most convenient when she is in a rush, so we won’t be getting rid of that anytime soon. The French press will get some more usage as well because of Stagg.

Aside from brewing coffee I found the Stagg EKG to be useful brewing other drinks like hot chocolate and tea. Due to the speedy heat up times I could brew these drinks much quicker than with my old electric kettle or even stovetop. I also used it to make some ramen bowls and cup-o-noodles for a snack. These are obviously off label usages but the Stagg worked great for them. Now I don’t have a need really for my other kettle, which is what I had used to make these items.

Overall, I really like the Fellow Stagg EKG. It is very stylishly designed which is important for an appliance you may wish to leave out on the counter. It also performs exceptionally well in my usage. It heats the water quickly and accurately. Its also easy to pour in a consistent manor. The base has a simple design that is fairly intuitive to use. It also has a the ability to serve multiple roles in my kitchen, so its not a single task appliance. I don’t really have a negative thing to say about the Stagg EKG.

If you are a coffee or tea enthusiast/connoisseur this is the kettle for you. It checks all of the boxes: simple, functional, aesthetically beautiful.

Setup is simple. Plug it in, place kettle on heating element base, pour in desired water, click disk, turn knob to desired temperature and wait for water to heat to desired temperature. I found using 1 cup / 8oz of water it takes about 1 minute to fully hear to 190 degrees. There are buttons on the back which alter the operational behavior. There is a toggle to go between Celsius and Fahrenheit. There is another to toggle hold on or off. Hold means when the kettle is placed on the base, it will maintain the set temperature. When this if off, the water heats to the desired temperature then turns off.

Functionally this kettle does what it needs to do. It heats water and feels great when pouring. The weight of the kettle favors the pouring motion. The handle is angled in such a way to facilitate a smooth and comfortable pour. I found it to be very ergonomic and could maintain a smooth pour. There are also holes in the top of the cap to allow steam to pass through. The cap also fits on very tight so there is no chance of it falling off when turning the kettle at extreme angle, or even upside down. Despite being a tight fit, it is easy to open and close. The base is made of a rubber material on the top which allows the kettle to gently be placed down.

All in all, this is simply an outstanding kettle and I enjoy using every day when making my coffee. I recommend it to anyone who is an avid coffee or tea drinker.

Quick and efficient. Use daily for French press and/or pour over.

  32. ElCapitan

Awesome for tea or lattes. Looks and peforms great.

  33. JMCK

The Kettle itself is amazing, the issue is the spout. I happened to rest the spout on a ceramic mug and the black matte transferred to the mug. Yes I know you shouldn’t do that.. I was on the phone and didn’t realize what I had done and then saw the transfer and couldn’t believe it. Partially my fault, but it shouldn’t have transferred that easily.

  34. DustyTech

I can’t say that I’ve had a favorite kettle before now. This one has set a high bar.

  35. Deelz

What a beauty, slow pour is perfect for making French press

  36. Abhaxus

The Fellow Stagg electric kettle is beautiful and well thought out for usability. I’ve found it great for getting a precise temperature down to the degree for coffee and tea, as well as easy to maintain a consistent pour down to the last drop. Probably my favorite feature is the built-in timer when you are ready to pour. By having the”stopwatch” built right into the kettle it’s easy to see how long your coffee has been brewing. Combined with a french press or pour over set, this thing makes for some excellent, smooth coffee.

For some reason my original review for the Fellow Stagg bugged and never posted, and I’m happy to report after 8 months it is still working perfectly and earning it’s permanent place at the coffee bar section of my kitchen counter.

Excellent Kettle, Fast to boil, leaves very little to ask for. More expensive than the rest, yet makes up for it in design and performance.

  40. Lilgill

Boils water quickly, the best companion for pour over coffee.

  41. Richard

Great for making tea! The timer function has been useful instead of starting a separate timer elsewhere when steeping. Although, that feature is more so geared towards pour over coffee.

  42. Gingin

My youngest son’s girlfriend has been wanting this for months. She was sooo happy Christmas day, and uses it every day. It was such a surprise for her and decice is wonderful

  44. Leonardo

Been making coffee pour overs where temps are crucial. This kettle with the digital screen makes consistency easy. My coffee flavors have been consistent since this kettle.

  45. Axel

Works really good and really fast. I use it for matcha and coffee ❤️

This kettle is a critical part of our morning coffee ritual. Heats water to the perfect temperature for pour-over using our Hario V60 Cone. Has options to hold temp for 5 or 60 minutes. Only down-side is that you pay for the quality.

  47. Nolan

Great product, works very well. Easy instructions and set up. Be sure to read cleaning instructions, there are some specifics about how to best wash the product. But it heats up fast, functionality is there, and as a bonus looks great as well. Highly recommend!

  48. Santiago

Bought one last year, it is nothing short of spectacular! It saves me a lot of time, gives me the exact temperature for my daily coffee fix. I would not buy anything else!

  49. jx00

In general pretty good. When you are pouring the water you need to pour it slowly otherwise water may get out from the kettle. I like the function of keeping the water warm

Awesome Pour over kettle. Just the right size and look. It has a very simple sophisticated look and simple controls and measurement marks.
