Mintah –
Quality of scanner is excellent. Software including silverfast SE plus has steep learning curve to maximize workflow
Sunshine –
Scans in negatives, slides and photographs really well. Color and clarity exceptional.
Junlog –
Scanner that can handle all film formats and does a great job with documents

The Epson V850 scanner is amazing to archive film and photos. I found it easy to use after a little time getting used to the features and I have scanned slides, film and photos with ease. The scan quality is the best I have seen of any scanner. The only downside is the price is a little high.
Nina –
I didn’t get to play around with slides and negatives yet. So far photos are good.
Jidy –
We chose a high end photo scanner. We had great service. Still getting to know the software
SarahSays –
While we have not had it long, so far the scanner and software work beautifully! It has cut our scan time in half! The quality of the scans are as expected, they look great.
DARKCLOUD –
Easy to use. I love the fact that I can scan film. It scans fast. Best scanner I have purchased
Dczech –
Did not work out of the box but Epson sent me a replacement that works GREAT and Best Buy refunded my money and the extended warranty money. I am very happy with the scanner
T123 –
Higher priced scanner but delivers outstanding functionality. Excellent overall “digitization” aspects.
Pumper –
The quality of the scans are unbelievable. They are great I love this thing.

I enjoy using this scanner along with the EpsonScan. I have also used the SilverScan program; it requires more of a learning curve. I purchased the scanner to digitalize family photos from years ago. It is slightly shaper than the V600 but would be hard to tell if not comparing scanned photos side by side, but not as sharp as digitalizing using my Sony camera with a Sony macro lens. Using the scanner is a slower process upfront but the colors are more true to life than with my digital camera which is faster upfront but that requires more tweaking to get the colors right after capturing the photo/s.

The scanner works very well. I am pleased with the results. I am a long-time Epson scanner user. I decided to retire my V700 which is in very good condition to upgrade to newer technology.
The reason for the low review is the Epson Scan software. They decided to remove the Office Mode option which is needed to easily scan 8.5″ x 11″ pages. This option has been available in Epson Scan software for many years.
I spent much time with Epson tech support to learn how to perform a scan of 8.5 x 11 inch pages using the V850 interface. They told me to purchase a third-party software scanning software. An additional step is required in Epson Scan Professional Mode. First the document must be previewed, then the page size set to 8.5 x 11. This must be done for each page.
I purchased Silverfast 9.0 to perform the scans at 8.5 x 11.
As a result, I do not recommend this scanner as an upgrade since the interface is not sufficient. Excellent scanner with a useless interface.

Bought for scanning family archives and slides. It arrived ahead of schedule and in good condition.
B123 –
Very easy to use. Does a great job scanning older photos. The slide mounting fixtures make it a breeze to scan a dozen slides at once. Very fast.
jimi –
High Quality Scans. The best flatbed scanner in the price range. Challenges scanners costing twice the price.
Cadmus –
This is the gold standard for flatbed scanners. Depending on specific needs, VueScan software can be more useful than the provided Epson software.

I t was a gift for a friend and he seems enjoy it very much.

This photo scanner is the “best buy” for the price. It has several different templates that accommodate from small film to oversize negatives, which is the one I needed. It is very user-friendly and easy to understand the scanning process. Some of the negatives scanned were over 60 years old and the quality of the scan was amazing. The only complaint is that Best Buy did not accept our 501(c) status and taxes were charged. Highly recommended the product.

Hands down one of the best film scanners in the industry outside of industrial sized units!!!! This scans pretty much all of the popular sizes of film/slides. When you get into higher resolution scanning it is a bit on the slow side but that is expected with this sort of thing.
Quality of scans is more than acceptable and have printed 30×40 with zero issue and could easily do larger prints (depending on post production and sizing techniques of course)
Chinni –
Excellent Scanner.
I use it for everything from slides to just regular docs. Easy to use and very good results.

I bought the V850 as an upgrade to my V600 that I purchased about five years ago. The V600 is a very good home scanner but the V850 is definitely an upgrade in terms of its capabilities (but the software is basically the same). I am using it to scan thousands of 35mm slides and old negatives and was looking for a way to speed the process up. Not only does the V850 scan at a faster speed it can scan 12 slides at a time, as opposed to only 4 with the V600. It also scans my odd-sized (2.5×4.5 inch) negatives from the early 1900s. Still learning all it does. So far so good!

Easy to use and has all the accessories needed to scan all types for photo mediums.

Love this scanner. Very crisp detail and consistent results. Very fast as well. Would highly recommend this scanner to anyone looking for professional results.
BigAl –
Very high quality scans but it takes a VERY long time to scan slides. I bought it to do stereo slides but so far have not seen a way to do them. Epson said that it would.

This is, in my opinion, the best scanner desktop scanner you can get for an affordable price. The image quality is excellent, I wish the film holders were better, they seem sort of flimsy and easy to break. These are on or off the market, scanners are disappearing rapidly, and there seems to be little if any movement to do much further improvements. That being said, if you are in need of a higher end scanner, this one is a jewel. I use it for prepress work and it is easily the best. I recommend VueScan software for it than comes with it, as it is much easier to manipulate it. This is the second Epson high end (Epson V750 previously) I’ve owned, and the other is still outstanding and serving another job site for me.

The IT person who set it up for me said it was new but an older version of the V850. The Silverfast 8 that came with it was already outdated and wasn’t compatible. He went in and updated to the software Silverfast 9 but I had to pay extra. Now it is supposed to work. He said it should be a good scanner.

Scanning 2000+ 35mm slides. The slides are 60-80 years old, should have done years ago. Slides loose some of the color over the years. I agree with all the recommendations that this is the best scanner for what I am doing. I am using VueScan software to create an image of the 12 slides and process another day. Buy a few extra slide holders. Also created for scanning photos.

Needed to scan old family photos. This is incredible. Allows me to correct cracks and discoloration.
HPgood –
Exceptional. Anyone who has scanned negatives, slides and photos knows the challenges. This unit surpasses anything i have used in the past.
BudGuy –
I had fun using the scanner. I recently scanned all of my mothers pics she had saved and distributed to all of my siblings. The only issue I had was with the software. I wanted to make all the scans JPG but it would at times change it to TIF so I had to keep an eye on it.
BestHomeBuy –
Best Buy is the Best place to Buy from! This has been an item on my wish list for a while, and as soon as it came back into stock…. Best Biy let me know. Thanks a bunch as always!!

Still playing around with this high end scanner but not yet disappointed.
Rekanix –
Highest of quality, which is exactly what I wanted! Happy with this item, and will be happier when I have more old photos scanned! This is my daughter – she’s almost 25 years old now, and I couldn’t be happier with the quality of this scan!
Robert –
It does a perfect job scanning pictures and slides. The quality is great. A black and white old picture turned out better than the original. Easy to set up (read all the instructions.
Chef –
High resolution scanner with top notch software. Pricey but worth it if you are dealing with photos or such.
MadelineV –
Purchased as a gift, my father loves it. It comes with lots of additions and easy to switch out.
RockyS –
My purchase through your store was perfect. The product was what I ordered and it was easy to get. The condition was brand new and undamaged.
DeborahM –
The scanner is fabulous, easy to use, and the quality is superb. We have scanned over 1000 slides in just over a week
RalphEGrant –
Does a great job scanning 35mm, 120, 4×5, and larger! Buy the additional wet mount for even more capability! Comes with 2 of every adapter so you can be scanning one and prepping the other!
BillH –
It has the capability of making good scans, but it has not kept up with modern technology. It is extremely slow and the 35 mm negative carriers are a tedious nightmare. I will not use mine again until I find the time and way to make the negative carrier I have designed in my head. It just wastes too much time.

This is an excellent professional grade photo scanner with all of the adapters necessary for every type of film negative. We purchased this to be able to scan my mother’s old family photos and load them onto an iPad so that she could zoom in and see them with her failing eyesight. At $1200 it was not cheap, but it is *very* good.
We were able to scan hundreds of photos and remove some of the scratches, correct for faded colors and even brighten underexposed photos so they we could actually see who was in them. It took a bit of trial and error at first to find the settings that worked best for our photos, and most of the color photos had to be done with a low size or resolution due to memory issues. The black and white ones were no problem. We’ve only done a few scans of negatives, but the film adapters worked quite well also.
We shared the photos with other family members in their 70s and 80s who were so excited to actually have copies of the family photos from their childhoods.
If you are looking for a high quality photo scanner, this is definitely an excellent choice.

It is simply THE scanner to get if you are serious about scanning photos or slides, haven’t tried negatives, but it has the adapter. Historical Society is happy.
