I got this printer to make stickers with my cricut. Setting it up didnt take too long.
I havent had any issues with the ink running or smearing with my sticker paper or when touched by water.
Just as a note: with cricut design space it uses the printers default settings – which so far as i can tell you can’t change on the printer its self. It wasted maybe 10 sheets of sticker paper trying to get the alignment right. I’d have it show up great on the tests and then look awful when printed on the glossy sticker paper. Turns out i needed to adjust the settings on my computer. It was really irritating.
Other thank than no complaints. Ive made a lot of stickers and haven’t needed to replace the ink yet.

Epson, imo, makes a great printer, and I have owned several all in one’s. My last one, a 950 was a workhorse and I rode it till it reached its ink pad demise. Yes, it can tell when that part wears out and refuses to print anything else. The XP-970 is a very good printer, pictures come out looking great and we also use it for printing calendars and CD/DVD labels.

I’m very happy with this printer! I have been through two printers and always had an issue printing my art prints and stickers on thicker paper but this printer took all kinds of paper I threw at it. This printer is also good with ink I went through 100+ prints and stickers until I had to replace the ink which the cost for ink wasn’t to bad. The colors are vibrant and highest quality. I would highly recommend this printer to anyone who is interested.

I cannot understand what the hoopla is about with this printer as it is a very average printer, if you’re an artist or photographer, do not buy! And if you need to print a document the quality is probably the worst I’ve sever seen. Ever. Of course there is no support for anything you want to find answers to. Last Epson I’ll ever buy. If it’s not too late, I’ll return it.

I use the XP-970 printer mostly for photos and I am quite pleased. The color and sharpness are excellent and the printer has adjustments to optimize the results. Although I have not yet used it, the ability to print 11 x 17 in. paper is another feature that attracted me to that model.

Initial setup was quick, but colors look muted. Especially compared to my old HP. Had to mess with driver settings for color and quality defaults. It improved, but still hasn’t wowed me. It often seems to be recalibrating during a print job – making one page take 3-5 minutes to complete. Don’t know why any printer has to do this so often.

First Epson I’ve owned in years. I forgot how versatile they are. As an audio engineer, I appreciate the ability to design labels and print directly to CD media. All other functions are top notch, and ink usage is very economical, especially for the quality. Highly recommended.

Easy to setup. Prints look great. Ink cartridges that come with only are partially full and are just for charging the printer and printing a few prints. You will need to buy a set of 6 cartridges that will cost you an additional $66 for standard cartridges or $105 for the larger XL cartridges and Best Buy doesn’t even sell the cartridges. Come on Epson put the extra $2 worth of ink in the cartridges to begin with. I ended up returning the printer after a week of use.

The color quality is fantastic! I got it mainly for it’s ability to print directly on DC/DVD/BluRay discs. You get a good glossy one and the quality is just wow.
Best part however, the Epson replacement ink is not expensive!

Print Quality
The print quality is great, but sometimes requires tweaking to the settings to get it just right, so print small until you get it right so you don’t use too much ink.
Paper
I had hoped I could use the mountains of paper I already have for this printer, but the ink doesn’t print well on certain gloss papers (ex. Xerox ultra gloss digital paper). I’m sure Epson paper would print beautifully, but that comes at higher cost. It prints well on every matte I tried and most semi-gloss. It does not play well with all paper, but that is more on the ink, not the printer itself.
Ink
Epson is known for its quality ink. If you have the right paper, it will print beautifully.
Although, this printer is thirsty, and the cartridges are small. You will run out of black ink before printing 10 11x17s. If only there were larger cartridges.

Troubleshooting
Unfortunately, sometimes errors do occur, and at the worst possible times. When it happens, it cancels the print, which is not fun when you were 90% into printing an 11×17.
Price
You can’t find a better large-format printer for the price.
Final Thoughts
I’m sure it sounds like I am being negative about the printer by picking out all of its flaws, but I really do like it. I hope it’s helpful for you and know what to expect.
I do like the XP-970. It will hold me over until upgrading to the Eco Tank equivalent (ET-8550), and a UV varnish coating machine for large printing projects.
It gets 5 stars for its good price.
