There are a lot of VERY expensive headphones out there but these ones are at the right price point and sound incredible. Also very comfy.

These cans are not neutral, at all. But are actually very warm and fun to listen to all kinds of music. More bass(very clean, but definitely there). Although they have a v-shaped sound signature, the mids are fully present, and the highs crisp. The bass is better than my DT-770s, IMO, anyway. I also have the R70x’s, and those also sound incredible, but have a totally neutral, clean sound. While they make great reference cans, while these just sound great, and will make any music/movies sound great! Although they have almost non existent clamping force, and they tend to slide down my head until the top of my ear keeps them in place, with no discomfort, even after a full 8 hours without taking them off. I have fallen asleep, and woke up to them still on my head. But those with smaller heads/ears might want to make sure they will stay put, and not slide off. As the “3-d wings” are the only thing that is supposed to keep them in place, but there is no way to tighten the headphones, at all. I would definitely recommend them, especially for the price. The cable is great, just wish it was detachable..

An excellent product for an exceptional price. These headphone are comfortable for hours on end. The cable is not removable, but its the kind of cable that would never be expected to break or wear out. The adapter for the jack screws in and the length of the cable is perfect for any jam session. Truly a blessed pair of headphones.

I was initially not impressed when I got these from both a sound and comfort standpoint compared to other Audio-Technica’s I own.
I put some Brainwavz earpads on and they are incredibly comfortable and sound so much better now. They’ve gone from the bottom of my pile to top 3.

There are some very enthusiastic reviews here about the Audio-Technica ATH-990z headphones. With that in mind and since the price seemed good, I pulled the trigger and ordered.
Credit to Best Buy; the ATH-990z arrived two days later.
The box had a lot of cardboard inside, the purpose of which escaped me.
I plugged them into the computer and the immediate impression is that I had suddenly developed a cold. Small ensemble classical music seemed to be coming through a wall of cotton. Larger orchestral works sounded the same…as though that cold was worsening.
Additionally, there was no exciting high end to be heard although the bass was fair. (One of the reviewers here called it “Warm.” I would agree)
Playing what I was hearing was my computer with a prosumer audio card. The recordings were of large works that my company had made digitally for clients in the Washington DC area some years back.
To try another source, I have an original iPod (made extinct this month). The sound as heard through the ATH-A990z was now really bad. Muffled, no high end at all and stereo imaging was “confused,” at the very least.
To be fair, I don’t know what the original iPod analog output specs might be and that might have a bearing on how the ATH-A990z performed.
As far as comfort goes, the ATH-A99-z is well-designed and sits lightly on the head. AFter an hour of listening my ears had not gotten hot, as they do after 15 minutes with my Sony over-the-ears.
In any event, compared with the 30-year-old Sony over-the-ears, the Audio-Technica ATH-A990z fails miserably and they were returned to Best Buy.

Sound great, get low, no distortion. On par with my air pods pro.
