So first off this is a very cool looking console. A throwback with a modern touch to the Atari 2600.
As a video game machine it’s pretty good. The online store is expanding but nothing compared to Sony or Microsoft. With that said, It’s no PS5 or X.
I own an original 2600 along with all other Atari consoles including the Lynx so this was a no brainer.
However, at $400 it’s a tough sell. For 100 more you can snag a PS5 or X.
But, If you are looking for that Atari itch to play classic Atari games with a 1 button controller then look no further.
It has a pc mode if you install windows so it can also be used as a mini pc with expandable storage and RAM

I love the Atari VCS which to me is a lot like a Nintendo Switch but for Atari fanatics. I love the design and controllers which remind me of 1977 all over again. Of course it can be used as a PC so if you have a SSD drive with Windows you can plug it in and use it for that purpose as well (emulators, etc). Out of the box you aren’t getting a lot of power to do a whole lot of heavy PC gaming but the memory and storage can be upgraded for the techy types. But mainly I bought it to enjoy as a game system, as pricy as it seems…the only downside is that it’s a total streaming machine so if your Wi-Fi croaks then you won’t be playing Atari today. It’s not going to outperform a Switch, PS4 or Xbox but I don’t think it was made to compete with them and if it was, it wouldn’t. But it does outperform at a nostalgia level. I would have to say this system is for Atari nuts only, anyone else who didn’t enjoy these classic systems in their prime may be disappointed

It bring the back memories. It’s just like the old Atari when I was a kid. I love it.
DW1211 –
Excellent product…. Lacks a lot of the Atari titles though…. Hopefully they release more

I purchased this mostly for nostalgia reasons. The games and controllers work really well. I have also used this device for a Zoom call by adding a camera and keyboard to it and it performed wonderfully. I hope space invaders and some Activision games will be available for this console in the near future. I hope the best for the future of this company.

Must have for the Game room collection and especially in the Walnut edition. The onyx color is everywhere but this is a classic color to have.

Well it looks cool. The atari store doesnt get many new games and its a bit of a hassle to buy anything through the shop. It seems to run slower than any other device via wifi(downloads, browsing, etc.) Overall it does come with a decent free gaming service (Antstream), and 100 classic atari titles. PC mode is generally how i use this device, the Atari OS is lacking for my preferences.

I love this Atari VCS it’s more than I expected it to be got Windows 11 on it running all kinds of games and love the games at the Atari store to what a great lil system

Cool when it worked. Poor customer service. I haven’t used it in three months. Just tried this week, It no longer allows me to log in. Log in as guest works, but nothing works once you get logged in. Cannot reset it either as it gets some kind of error. Can no longer boot to Ubuntu either.

The Atari VCS is an awesome console. You can play old Atari classic games or the new Atari Recharged series. Also, you can stream Xbox Game Pass or install Microsoft Windows. I really enjoy playing with the new classic joystick.

Its a great flahback to when my dad was growing up and playing games

I love my atari vcs, very nice and high quality, highly recommend for retro game fans

Memories and throwback lanes. Love the controls and games.

Not so much a review but a question.. I have an Atari VCS and I’ve bought two SATA m.2’s but neither of them work. Has anyone found a m.2 that works with the VCS and if you have could you tell me what brand and if Best Buy carries it? I would certainly appreciate it! I really like my VCS.. and I appreciate anyone’ s help!

System works great alone but be nice to find the usb flash to enable windows mode on it, other wise no problems

The Atari VCS is a modern take on the classic Atari console, with a sleek design and updated hardware that can run modern games and applications. The console comes with an Atari-style joystick and a modern controller, and it can be used to play classic Atari games as well as new games and applications.
One of the standout features of the Atari VCS is its ability to run modern games, which sets it apart from other retro gaming consoles. The console is capable of running games in 4K resolution and HDR, providing a high-quality gaming experience. It also supports streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, making it a versatile entertainment device.
As for the games that have been released or produced for the Atari VCS so far, there are several classic Atari titles available, such as Asteroids, Centipede, and Missile Command. These games have been updated with modern graphics and gameplay features, while still retaining their retro charm. There are also several new games available, such as Boulder Dash Deluxe and Jetboard Joust, which provide new and exciting gaming experiences.
Overall, the Atari VCS is a great console for fans of classic Atari games and modern gaming alike. Its sleek design, modern features, and ability to run both classic and modern games make it a versatile and enjoyable console. While there are currently a limited number of games available for the console, the library is growing, and it’s exciting to see what new games will be released in the future.

Very mediocre. Need a lot more polishing and love from the creators. It just Doesn’t feel like a finished product.
Biigmike –
If you are looking for something flashy and high tech. This is not the system for you. It is basic as it comes. I love how nostalgic and basic it is! It really only serves one purpose… to play arcade style of games!! If you love these classic games I say go for it.
WillC –
It was not the game that I grew up on. It was like back in the seventies poor quality hard to hook up
Drew –
This console is more of a mini PC then anything. A great piece of nostalgia if you want to relive the Atari glory days, or just run it in PC mode and play around. It was a deal of the day for $200. Thats about the right price point imo.
Hombre1jp –
Works great! Has a good amount of games and doubles as a pc if you install windows on it.
Can have ram upgraded and you can add an NVME for extra storage as well!
Auzzie2112 –
Fun machine to tinker with. Was clearly built to customize. However, it would be nice if you didn’t have to spend a few hours researching online how to update/unlock bios.
lefty –
Amazing as a mini PC, beyond being a game console.
However I would caution anyone wanting to upgrade this along with changing BIOS settings, as there is no longer a password available to modify settings in the Boot menu for running the CPU above the base clock settings, and I have as of yet not been able to hard reset the BIOS to get rid of this password. You can upgrade the RAM up to 32GB from the stock 8, but you can no longer dedicate any extra RAM to the GPU to go beyond the 2GB base. My system is able to grab from “Shared GPU memory” but it tends to take the entire 2 from the GPU before it attempts to use the shared memory, which can mean your system is often running a bit hot. when I play games on Steam the temp reads at above 90 °C and went up to 99 at some points. You might want to add some thermal paste and a fan upgrade to increase airflow and protect it from overheats. If you want to use this primarily as a PC I would recommend getting a M.2 SSD to add to the available slot inside the machine, install the OS separately using WinToUsb or similar programs from another computer, as you can not install natively from booting. Running your OS thru an external drive plugged in can lead to slowdowns.
TL; DR: A very versatile but ultimately somewhat limited mini PC, but hey… it comes with a classic style joystick for Atari games! B)

This is a pretty good little machine if you know what you are doing. It’s certainly more powerful than a Raspberry Pi and can run actual Windows. It is overpriced.
Michael22 –
All classic games in one console. Great deal when on sale.
JayM –
great gaming experience. i recommend to all gamers young and old
JordanS –
Way too slow of a device for what it’s being sold for it’s aesthetically pleasing but the performance is abosmal
Disappointed –
This thing is junk. I really tried to give it a chance, but it has ZERO redeeming qualities. Every single time I try to update it, it will freeze. In the past, I would have to connect to my mobile WiFi to get the update to install. It would not work on my FIOS WiFi, or hardwired. Now, it will not update, no matter what I do. Don’t take my word. Do a web search and look at the actual reviews. I have worked in IT for 23 years and have never had the misfortune of dealing with such a poorly conceived or supported device in my life.
ProtosHeis –
A kick in the 80’s. Plus the now now.
A versatile little surprise. Not only a game system, but a productivity system. Work and play.

Very fun little console/mini pc! The vcs has been great for old and new atari games. It comes w the atari vault vol.1 and ant stream arcade(a retro game streaming service). Both are very fun and have atari arcade and console classics. Ive included a few photos here. This consiel got me into the Atari homebrew and indie games! Theres a good amount on here and the devs chat frequently w the atari vcs community about what theyre working on and for feedback. Also installed windows and running my steam and gog games on here. Good amount of hardware mods that can be done as well. But none are required as this bundle comes pretty good as is. The controllers are great. The modern controller feels like a switch power A wireless controller. And the joystick is really fun to use and has rumble. Its openned up a new side of gaming for me! With that said I hope Atari continues to make improvements to the UI and OS. Plus keep bringing more Atari classics to the system.

My goodness this brought back so many fond memories. The games are a nice throw back to when gaming was pure

when I first saw this being advertised I couldn’t believe it! but here it is!

So far so good everything i buy in Best Buy is good even the things on opened box, I have exchanged some stuff but that’s because i got the wrong stuff.
David –
Cool with BestBuy it’s really nice trading here on Bustbuy
Dannx –
Great system, but it has some issues that need to be sorted out. I hioe it gets support
Norbert –
I love this game console , is like going back to the past
AnnieO –
I bought it for a gift for my son. He had asked for one.

The Atari VCS800 is an awesome system and is very flexable. The ability to increase ram and install an M.2 is great. I have one setup with Windows 10 to play my steam games on it. The other is dedicated to playing the Recharged Series and ither great games from their eShop.

I never really had any interest in this console, but it was on sale for a decent price so I figured it couldn’t hurt to have something to mess around with. I was excited to install windows or I ubuntu on this and use it through the PC mode as advertised. It’s easy enough to install on an external drive, but that doesn’t feel official enough for me, and the internal storage is really limited. I happened to have a spare SSD so I installed that in the internal NVMe slot and began the process of installing Ubuntu. Ubuntu wouldn’t detect the SSD no matter how many workarounds I tried, so I moved onto windows just to have the same problem.
This has already become a significant time sink at this point, but I spent the money on the console, so I figured I’d better do SOMETHING with it. I found some guides online that recommended a USB caddy for the SSD, and installing the OS there, then transferring it to the console. I ordered a caddy, and when it finally arrived, I began the process of installing the OS. Unfortunately, Rufus froze while installing windows, and killed my SSD.
That leaves me with the stock Atari OS… And I’ve decided to just return the console. Games are extremely overpriced and the interface belongs in the early 2000s. This is not a console I’d feel cool showing off the friends and family, and I can’t even get the satisfaction of tinkering with it because it’s just so poorly designed. It also doesn’t help that the controllers are cheaply made and barely work half the time. It’s a shame. The console was a great concept and it looks beautiful, but the execution was poor.

Item doesnt update when started up. You just get stuck in a continuous loop
Toro –
Great system after set up, Atari fans will love it
WilliamB –
So it was made to when you get a system update, you have to upgrade the RAM from 8gb to at least 16 GB ddr4 RAM and than it’s good to go. You get to see the art on the mobo. Good enough for a gaming PC with Nintendo going multiplatform and x box leaving the arena.
Alex –
All games that they give you can be gotten off line for free. I dont even think they have a copy right on them. Can be played on simple low grade Wii’s for free. Use classic controllers and its atari with new style controllers. When developing this and building it, what age group where they looking to hit with atari games regardless. The younger generation, being 30 and under gets all these games for free. Type in atari roms on a google search. Done. Save $.
Chris –
I rated it excellent for what we paid. We got it on a drop!
MVDembi24 –
Cool concept; it being modable and retaining the nostalgic style.
AppleUser –
I’ve got to be honest, I bought this purely out of nostalgia. This was a very first gaming console. I had was the Atari 2600 and now owning this one brings back to that childhood excitement, but I haven’t been able to open to play yet it probably won’t get open till Christmas so if anything goes wrong I’ll update my review then, happy hunting!
BrokenDeity –
Buggy software old hardware and monthly services. It has issues and new mini Ataris seem better developed.
Nickel –
What a waste of money. I thought it would include more games for the cost but it is basically a chrome cast. You can then purchase games separately but I expected at least pac man or something other then what was loaded. You can for another annually fee get that arcade bundle but I am not willing to spend more money on disappointment.
SandraT –
Great! This was an excellent choice for retro memorabilia’s
VikkiD –
The updates were fine. But the atari 2600 is just that. The old games with the pixelated visual content of old.
