    Very easy to use and very quiet. It comes with two separate cords instead of a single split cord – one cord for USB and the second cord for USB-C connections. It is a little slow to open and shut the door tray but as far as it working- it pops up fairly quickly on the laptop and plays CDs DVD’s and Software disks.

    supposedly an easy set up, but not as easy as was suggested. have not used it much, as the tax CD I tried was not cooperative at all. The CD was brand new!

    This drive is cheap enough to justify purchasing with any modern laptop, even if your use cases may be small. It’s capable of doing just about anything you may ever need to do in terms of optical media, and will probably last for many years of moderate use.

    Seems like a decent device. New laptop did not have a CD drive and my son wanted to rip some of his CDs into iTunes to listen on his phone so we bought this.

    I’ve only used it to read CDs, I haven’t tried to burn anything or read DVDs yet.

    The disc tray seems a little flimsy but what isn’t these days? Other than that, seems sturdy enough.

    My new computer doesn’t have an optical drive. This drive works great. Easy to plug into usb port and works perfectly to read my CDs and DVDs. You can also write and store data with this drive. It was on sale the day purchased and easy pickup at local Best Buy store.

    This drive is plug and play with Windows; I didn’t open the included CD. It’s very compact but I think care is needed to avoid damaging the drawer when open: it isn’t very sturdy. It fit the need for ripping some old music CDs on a drive-less desktop.

    Yes, you can playback DVDs with this ASUS EXTERNAL CD/DVD writer. And while the tray is still empty, you can use the onscreen display to eject it, but when it’s actually loaded, that method doesn’t work, so it has to be manually ejected using a pin via the pinhole. Haven’t tried burning a disc with it yet, but it’s possible that it’s a similar maneuver. I’m only using this with my Mac mini having Apple silicon- so at least it works! You’d have to experiment with Mac versions of playback software for satisfactory results. So can ASUS update the firmware so that this is 100% operational with latest macOS? The unit comes with 2 cables; I’m using the USB-C.
