ROGally –
great device for gaming, it can process large games with no lag
JoeH –
The system was OK and needs improvement not to impress with it
Wdav –
Just buy it. It’s nice to be able play all my PC games on the Ally…it works well battery life at max performance is about 2 hrs. Don’t use the SD card reader as it overheats potentially. Planning on upgrading the m.2 2230 SSD to 2tb and performing a battery mod.
DanielK –
I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of gameplay on larger and demanding titles like Lies of P but it seems like while they excel in gameplay they lack a little quality hardware. I had my device for 2 weeks before I had to send it in for repair due to the thumb stick being broken and locked the cursor dragging left making it useless for gaming. I bought it because even though I have an up-to-date PC I miss the casualness of a console and this very much hit the spot and would be terrific for travel, even though the battery life is terrible. I am looking forward to getting it back and would not discourage buyers but suggest a reasonable comparison between the options available, steam deck, claw and whatever might come next to see if it would be a better fit.

This machine is like having magic in my hands, the speed, the quick response that the joysticks have, the variety of things that you can do such as watch videos, look for reviews for other devices, and other awesome things like its wide storage. Its perfomance cannot be compared with other devices in the same line of products. I really enjoy having it and I don’t regret buying it
AidC –
Pretty nifty I like how portable it is and I like the framerates
Anthony –
This is one of the best handles I have owned since the PSP was around. I would def recommend this if you are something other than a steam deck but note this is a windows device so some tinkering might be needed due to windows being windows. A battery pack is a must if you are playing third AAA games.
Mateo –
On my unit, one button has a occasional tendency to stick and the battery life is notably awful unless limiting power. Besides that, an all around upgrade imo over my old Steam Deck.
JonW –
I would definitely recommend this product. Graphics are awesome and the price is right! Having a steam deck that i can use with ease on the go is paramount.

As someone who has been playing on consoles for a very long time, this was a great step into pc gaming. I got an open box-excellent and there have been no issues with it in case anyone was wondering. Worth the savings.
TannerF –
I got the z1 extreme while it was on sale. 100 $ off. Highly recommend this version if your doing more than indie gaming. Amongst my vast steam and Ubisoft libraries of games only one game has not worked with the control pad and requires keyboards and mouse. I’m sure someone more familiar could figure it out. The build is good though I wish there was more palm grip. A bit more meat to hold onto. Fixing that with a case from skull n co. Hearing of the potential as card failure problems I immediately updated to the 2 tb max ssd. So no problems losing data. Highly recommend this. Fix was not difficult with a cheap tool kick with some picks to pry it apart gently. I enjoy the windows software so far. Not really any issues.

Love it but it’s takes some getting used to. I still haven’t learned everything. I do enjoy it .
Twin –
It works great. It can play the games i want to play and warms up my room nicely in the cold midwest nights. Only downside is battery life is a little short.
DavidL –
is really good i enjoy playing on it when am away from home but like everything there’s always issues like the battery and the memory are kind of lame but understandable i guess it is basically a handheld computer
Psilivibin –
Awesome handheld with as much (and more) power than my built gaming PC that cost more than it. Loved it since I got it and have not put it down.
Chon –
Great powerful mini beast. Play your gamepass games anywhere!
Larry –
This handheld is powerful. From emulation to AAA games, I’m sure there’s something it can’t play but i haven’t found it yet.
There are hundreds of reviews on YouTube that could do a better review than me but the only issue is battery life. I normally average around 1hr unplugged.
There was a known issues with the sdcard slot failing and Asus may have changed something with all the updates because mine is still working fine.I use the sdcard card slot for emulation storage and some smaller older games. If it fails I’ll do and RMA or use my extended warranty but no users as of now.
You should upgrade the Nvme to a 2tb or more. I put a 2tb 2230 drive in mine and it’s plenty for now but they aren’t cheap right now at $149 online.
YasminM –
Easy to use. Graphics are amazing and it doesn’t lag while playing.
BradG –
Great performance, perfect size, it’s a really useful device. Battery life could be better but physics is what it is.
JoshuaD –
Love the thought process overall of the device, and well executed. The only issue is the battery life. I am still using it for both work and entertainment, regardless of me having to charge it if i play “Cyberpunk 2077” or “Baldur’s Gate 3”. Good battery life if you are playing older gen games like “Persona 5” or “Final Fantasy XV”.
McgwireA –
I bought it months ago and didn’t use it as much as I thought. Recently I have been using it a lot and have been loving it! I play with a controller though because it is weird to hold for me and slightly heavy.
Yovanni –
I’ve got to say, I love this little thing. Plays every game I’ve thrown at it so far, and is convenient to have around. The only draw back being the battery life, but honestly i mainly keep it plugged in and if it’s not plugged in, then it just reminds to take a brake every so often.
Ashley –
The ROG Ally is a great handheld gaming PC! It launched rough but got better later. It’s not a seamless of an experience as a Steam Deck, there is a lot of tinkering you have to do with controller settings, especially if the game isn’t already controller-supported.
That said, it can run more games than a Steam Deck since it uses Windows as its OS; the drawback is that it’s a desktop version, and it’s kind of a pain to navigate with the UI as a result– thankfully I spend most of my time in Steam’s Big Picture Mode.
If you’re on the fence, wait for a sale, or look for an open box/used one, but if you can deal with the caveats it’s 100% worth it!
CHRISG –
This handheld is so versitile. I have not been able to put the ROG ally down since i purchased it
GamingDad –
A buddy of mine was recommending this for my on the go gaming and its been nothing but amazing! The graphic quality is great, the funcationality of it is great. I recommened it to all my pc gaming friends with kids or are constantly on the go!
Slawdawg –
Honestly i wasnt expecting to be so impressed with the capabikities this little hand held has! The screen quality and frame rates im seeing are great on games like baulders gate 3 and cyberpunk 2077.
MarkL –
Product has a lot of promise, but Steam Deck is still the best handheld PC device on the market.
Braden –
Not going to go into crazy detail here. Let me just say this thing is awesome. I was originally leaning towards the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go, but after seeing this on sale I pulled the trigger and I’m so glad I did. It performs excellently on every game I’ve tried. 45-55 fps on RDR2, 60fps on HZD, 120fps on all 2D games. The screen is gorgeous even though it’s not OLED. The controls are comfortable enough that I can play for hours.
My only complaints are nitpicks. I wish battery life was a little better. It’s actually quite good for what is going on under the hood and there’s a good amount of control to maximize battery life. But I also feel like they could have made it a few millimeters thicker and put in a slightly bigger battery. I also wish there was a larger storage option as 512gb goes pretty fast with AAA games. Lastly, I with the charging port was on the bottom because the cable coming out of the top is kind of awkward when playing.
After seeing all the reviews of the other devices I’m so glad I went with this option. The Legion Go is massive and the controllers are not great, the Steam Deck is amazing but underpowered and limited to specific titles. The Ally sits perfectly in the middle. I would recommend grabbing a 2TB SSD to replace the one it comes with if you like to keep a lot of games loaded.

Good use when traveling and good use all around…..
Smyedusa –
Wow! This thing is amazing! It’s played everything I throw at it. Would definitely recommend for a computer gamer wanting more portability!
PirateAnks –
The ROG Ally Extreme version plays Destiny 2, so that’s something. Apart from a shorter battery life, everything else is easy after all the updates and softwares. I did through research between steam deck, ally, Lenovo, and few others, but this one was definitely the best choice.
holderofdoors –
As a dad its hard to find time to sit down and play a game. When i do game its typically not more than an hour. The ally is oerfect for this! Ive been playing gamepass, steam, WoW, PS remote play and more. I got it on sale and recommend you do too. i also picked up a battery just in case. Battery life is typically 90 minutes.
AhmedE –
The ability to play Triple A games anywhere is legendary and ROG Ally deliver on that promise
I advise anyone to purchase the device
ArmandoG –
My nephew was so happy with this purchase. He is able to access games virtually.
Espeonfan4ever –
Amazing handheld and perfect for me. Sadly paying way more than i sjpuld of cause its now on sale and Best Buy wont price match me.
Jerms –
Product is amazing, way better than advertised. Only reason for 4 stars is because its lacking in certain areas! Wish memory was bigger. Needs lots of updates right off the rip. But for the price its worth it. Prefect for a beginner handheld. Would definitely recommend for anyone.
JuanpabloC –
excellent product, works great, fast and realiable
BrianR –
If you’re in the market for a handheld PC, I’d hold on a little longer. Installing/managing software here is a pain, performance takes a ton of tweaking for every game, and battery life is embarrassing. I could see certain use-cases for a device like this in its current state, but I think your money is best saved for a more streamlined device that will likely see the light of day sometime soon. Perhaps the SteamDeck 2 whenever that lands.
HughD –
Performs better than my laptop with a 1660ti. I havent had any issues so far with setting it up.
user131848 –
The ROG Ally is one of my favorite pieces of technology ever! It’s basically a full computer and can run any game or program. I am pretty tech savvy and I do think it may be a bit difficult for people that don’t do well with technology. They have tried to simplify the UI and I think they’ve done a solid job. You may run into some hurdles here or there, but the performance is awesome, the audio quality is top notch, and the screen and controls are great. The only issue can be the battery life when playing triple a titles, but if you pick up a fast car charger you’ll be okay. The included charger works great and charges very quickly. I know some have had issues with the SD cards but I haven’t experienced any problems.
MayraV –
In love with this product
Better than other brand
JomarR –
I buy this ASUS to try this brand on August 26, 2023, I used several times to play games but few days the system doesn’t charge anymore and the system doesn’t want to turn on or charging. This is my first time using this particular system, my recommendation don’t buy this system same few more money and buy a gaming laptop is better option because this system don’t support playing and charging because I never dropped the system or something I always take care of my computer. Also I try diferente charger and I used into my Nintendo switch and works perfectly but in the Asus Rog Ally doesn’t work. As I said before is better save more money and buy a gaming laptop because otherwise it’s going to happen like me now I have to save money to buy a new gaming computer. I have the first Nintendo switch and I never had a problem with the console it’s not the same but this Asus are not efficient.
AlexM –
Bought a refurbished ROG Ally “refurbished” that the right and left movement didnt work in the right joystick, everything else was great but seems that no one checked it and just gave me one that somebody returned it for malfunctioning.
JosephF –
I think that the Asus Rog Ally is by far the best handheld gaming device I’ve ever had the pleasure of laying my hands on. Its everything I’ve ever wanted in a high end handheld and more.. much much more.. the fact that this beast runs Windows is also a huge bonus as I can also use it for some editing and various other tasks. Too bad 5 stars is the limit because I’d give 10 if I could.

Best handheld purchase so far. Having the Steam Deck and loving it, i was skeptical that the Ally would disappoint me just like it disappointed many others. I decided to get extended return window through Best Buy’s premium memberships just to give me time to deliberate between keeping this and getting the Legion Go.
…
Within The first few days, I had decided to keep it, applied a skin for it, bought accessories for it…
I guess I’m keeping it?
Running windows (and all its problems) was just familiar and ASUS’ controller software just works. Ive always built my PCs as if they were consoles so I just felt at home using my preferred controller setup. But the biggest perk for Windows is the convenience of games running as they should. Rune Factory 5, on steam deck cannot recognize the controller so to this day it only displays keyboard controls.
There will be tweaking software to your liking and customizing, but that is part of the fun (ahem-ulators!!)!
All in all, i would have sold my Deck if I really needed to afford this. But since I love quality handheld devices, I would keep them both and use the deck for reliable consistency and have the light and ergonomic Ally for more powerful applications.
Battery life does really suck though. It’s good for each normal session but since I usually am playing FFXIV on the tiny thing, expect me to be on it for an extensive amount of time. So i keep a battery pack nearby.
I would have enjoyed a second USBC port though! For the charging and a portable ssd or AR glasses.
Super easy to change the SSD as well. I had modded in a heat sink for the 2TB SSD i installed.
She’s a keeper for me.

This is a great windows based handheld pc. If you use more then steam and don’t want to mess around in Linux this worked for me right out of the box. After a few months of use I easily replace the ssd with no problems. Battery life is highly variable but I see 1.5 to 2 hours most of the time but I’m not trying to maximize at all.
Scott –
Love it, great for playing games on the go . I would
Highly recommend if you’re slightly computer savvy . If you want something you can plug in and go without any computer knowledge . This is not it .
WeikaiK –
The most powerful handheld as of now, would appreciate more if there are either more paddles on the back or a track pad on the front
JaimeG –
Amazing little device. Runs great love that windows runs on it. Superb quality.
Bblebuster –
This little computer is amazing! Gaming it blows the steam deck out of the water due to versatility of windows. Definitely upgrade that ssd to 1tb as soon as you get it.
