TL2020 –
A basic DVD-writer drive for a tower. Works pretty good. Had no issue with installation and the price was very affordable. Not the premium path, but works for a basic or budget build.

Purchased two units for new PCs I built. Still a necessary component in my industry. Installation was a breeze. Both units worked perfectly. Some nice additional free software.
BrownRaven2 –
Pretty standard optical drive, hardly anyone has use for one these days. I wanted one replace my external optical drive that was over 10 years old.
draco –
This product was bought for a new build. Works flawlessly. Third one I have bought for different builds. Seems to be my go to DVD Rewriter. Inexpensive and would recommend.

Daughter and I build a gaming PC, she wanted an optical drive (hardest part was finding a case with a DVD insert available).
Works very well, good product at a good price.
ugotme –
works just fine and it was just $22.00
just as good as the original

Have used these drives for years without problems. Quality drive that holds up.
Apurple1 –
Have always been pleased with ASUS products and pricing and this was no different. Easy to install and works well.
GREATPURCHASE –
Needed a second drive for my computer. This drive is faster than the pre-installed drive and has been a blessing in disguise.

This item working pretty well with my Desktop HP computer for Windows 10 21H2 and the price is reasonable.

Great DVD drive at a great value. Perhaps this isn’t used that much anymore but thanks to BestBuy for providing it at a great price!

works fine in my recently added Hp Z desktop. fits fine. data cable not included
TnMtnMn –
Since burners are becoming obsolete anymore, finding one when you need one is awesome. And at a descent price too.
s8buyer –
Well functioning DVD drive. Does not do blue-ray discs.

It turns out that modular power supply cables are not standardized. Even though they use the same plugs on both ends, there is a good chance that they are wired differently and that can result in catastrophic failure of a drive, or component. There is even concern for cables from the same product family that aren’t the same model.
And that’s why power cables don’t come included with components, at least generally.
For what it’s worth, the Asus CD/DVD R/W didn’t spark, fizzle, crackle, or release any toxic fumes, it just quietly died.
The old SSD I swapped in among my attempts to isolate why the drive wasn’t working was not so, auspiciously inclined.
There are much worse, and expensive, ways I could have learned this lesson:
Only use the cables that come with your PSU, and keep them separated from any others you might have, instead of dumping them all into a tote and using the first one you find.
Otherwise, pretty standard and solid construction. Caught the drive on a sale for $25 USD or so, which seems like a pretty good price to me. Manufacturing label says the drive was made in China during January 2021, which as a pleasant surprise was a lot more recent than I would have expected.
Importantly, at this time, the front panel shown as the official image of the drive does not match the actual drive being sold as another reviewer pointed out, it seems to be for a fancier model. I knew what I was getting into, but it is deceptive, though an easy enough mistake to make, and hopefully fix.

Great thank you for the wonderful things you sell at yours store
Newcomputer –
I did not use this item as it was sold to me in error for what I actually wanted.
Aldo –
We had it installed at Best Buy. They helped us order the part. We have had no problems at all since it was installed to replace the old one which did not function.
Martyfb –
Works pretty good, but software is old. Recommend for a basic burner
Hoyt –
I cannot review this because it has not yet been installed. So, stop bothering me.
ruby63 –
good product that I used it many years. I made a download from my video to DVD blank very quickly. I like it. I bought this product again because I lose old drive during the time I moved to another house.
Amplifier28 –

Fast, functional, easy to install and use optical drive.

I have been using these in my gaming PC’s that I build. They’re not as useful as they used to be, but makes it easier to view or load older games/drivers.

Well, I saw this optical drive on BestBuy.com at such a low price I had to purchase it !
I actually installed it in an external optical drive enclosure and have been using this drive thru USB 3.0 with my HP 17 inch Envy laptop.
I have not used the supplied software at all.
Well, I have only burnt a few Audio CD’s all successfully!
Pokiosoft Ez Audio – Da Extractor and Apple Itunes is what I usually use back and forth for Audio CD chores.
It even works with Foobar2000 universal audio/video media player with the Audio CD Authoring/Burning plugin – it is amazing with Foobar – so quick quick quick and supports .mp4 , .m4a, mp3 etc all in a single playlist for effortless Audio CD discs made.
About the speed process of this drive’s burning , it is noticeably quicker than the slim-line optical drives that cost 25 to 40 dollars online.
It is very very very nice to have this drive when you burn many optical discs lets say at a siting to gift out to others.
It is very quick, and I have yet to encounter any problems with my ASUS optical drive!
I very very very much recommend this drive. And at the price it was selling at the time I bought it on Best Buy, it is a must purchase!
Just remember, if you want to use it with your laptop make sure you have reliable drive enclosure.
Read reviews of such items to make sure you have a problem-free experience using it with your pc !
Happy buying !
Happy burning!
postscript
Remember that if you use an external drive enclosure with this drive, it will have an external power adapter to be able to use this drive with your computer.
The way I use it with my laptop, it is a little inconvenience to have to lug another power adapter and to find an extra power source plug-in at the restaurant/cafe to be able to use it. Make sure you find two power outlets- one for your laptop another for your optical drive ! You can also purchase a dual-outlet power bank to use for your laptop and this drive properly configured- which is what I will probably buy in the future!

Not what I thought…I thought I was buying an external drive but instead got an internal drive that I cannot use. It was cheap and not worth returning. I will gladly ship it to anyone willing to pay the shipping.

Works great easy install… Preforms as it should!
NYS2021 –
I bought several of these for retro pc use. Dirt cheap and they work great.
AngeliaR –
Reasonably price, works well, easy to install, very compatible.
DanV –
Still working just fine after a year. Was nice replacement for a failed drive.
explore42 –
I like the fact that this is a retail version vs a loose drive in a bag. The software included is outdated but at least its included. The drive installed without issue and so far plays the dvds that I own.
RobertG –
I have never bought an Asus product before. Even though I bought this product at Best Buy online, I am very pleased. The Optical Drive work great.
JohnP –
The drive worked great at first. Now 6 months after use, it quit working.

Works great put of the box. Plugged it in and had no problems at all. Works better than the one it replaced
CecilC –

Andrewrranger101 –

2004ChevyTahoe –
Needed a internal optical disc drive for my new PC. Works as advertised. Used this to install Windows 11.
Tritrek –
My DVR writer died after 8 years. I found this one at a really good price. Install and OS recognition was seamless. The drive worked perfectly. Since nowadays these drives are not used often, it does not get allot of heavy use. The only thing I noticed is that it is a little slower opening and closing than my last drive. Which really is not an issue, but I wanted to point out this observation. I would recommend this drive.
tlhjarhd –
Excellent drives. Very quick, and work great! Easy to install.
user235077 –
