- The MartinLogan Sound
Regardless of the environment, our speakers sound better, more articulate, detailed and realistic. With Controlled Dispersion and one of the clearest tweeters in the industry, our architectural models can complete with and often exceed the performance of traditional speakers. - Controlled Dispersion
Room acoustics are extremely important. Everything in the listening room has an impact on the sound of your speakers, so we try to minimize the harmful effects by focusing the sound directly on your ears. This increases clarity, and detail regardless of the rooms design. - Performance Meets Aesthetics
While there are many choices of CI speakers out there, MartinLogan stands out for bringing unique, high-performance technologies together in a package that perfectly blends discrete sound with noticeable quality. Performance and Aesthetics, both without compromise. - Folded Motion Tweeter
This miracle of audio engineering gives high efficiency and low distortion a new benchmark. Our signature Folded Motion Tweeter uses an extremely lightweight diaphragm, in a space saving “folded” design, to deliver incredible detail, speed, and accuracy in a small space. - Fiberglass Woofers
All Motion CI speakers feature lightweight woven fiberglass cones specifically engineered for their application to blend seamlessly with the lightning speed of our signature Folded Motion Tweeter. - Built-In Enclosure
The MC4 has a sealed enclosure integrated into its design, which helps contain the sound coming off the back of the speaker to dramatically reduce unwanted sound that can travel through the floor and up into the living space above the speaker.

I have the SLMs for my LCR and needed surround speakers. My couch is against the back wall and I didn’t have room in the walls to run wires. Since I was limited in options and my wife didn’t want large speakers, I decided on the ML in-ceilings.
Before these became available, I tried the IC3’s. I connected them to my receiver to see how they sounded with the SLMs and found them to be flat and inefficient. I returned them in favor of the MC4s.
The MC4s were a huge improvement. Having the ribbon tweeter, the sound is much brighter and more efficient. They blend in much better with the SLMs. With a small midrange woofer, I was realistic about the expectations. Overall, they sound great.
My only complaint has to do with the installation. The mounting tabs were not designed for thicker ceilings. I had to go in the attic and chisel out the slats in the ceiling to get the tabs to turn and grab. This was extra work I didn’t expect.

I have the ML motion bookshelves, center, and 5 1/2 surrounds. They are some of the best speakers I’ve ever heard, and in my opinion well worth their price.
These in ceiling speakers however…are not like the rest. They’re just not practical given their extremely limited range. Nothing sounds “complete” coming from these speakers alone. Deep voices, drums, a train, anything that needs a full range just gets cut right off at the mids. The mids and highs coming from the tiny speaker and folded tweeter are fantastic…but again, everything sounds “cut off” off by the limited lows.
I was planning on using these as Atmos height speakers, but returned them because I don’t even see them as being useful for things like helicopters flying overhead in the Atmos height speakers.
If you’re cutting your ceiling or wall to install a pair of speakers, definitely look elsewhere; especially for this price.
