    Watched a few reviews online and decide to purchase. I’m just a casual photo guy. Really like the how fast the lens is. Went to Longwood gardens for a night fountain show and go some terrific pictures. Very easy to use and not crazy expensive.

    I was on the fence about using this with my a6400 since it doesn’t have any stabilization and man i didn’t really notice too much shake maybe because I’ve gotten used to shooting video handheld but the image is great really sharp love the look. At this price you really can’t beat it.

    Clarity and bokeh is awesome! Bought this the first time and returned it bc although I loved it, it was way over my budget. Bought it cheaper lens but it didn’t work out for me. I regretted and went back for it.

    I have a Sony a6400 and this was a perfect addition. I’m just starting out with photography/videography so I’m not a pro with the technical terms. I use this lens a lot for portraits so it works great for that.

    The build quality is very good on this lens. After testing this sigma lens for about a week I found few problems and this problems made me return it. First and most importantly is sharpness and second is autofocus speed. Compared with native Sony lenses this are far behind. I know the price is good and build quality is comparable but the problem is once you’ve tried Sony this lens will not please you. Shot out to Sony for charging $46 product restocking

    When I first started photography I bought both this Sigma and the Sony 35mm F/1.8 (APSC). I had both because I couldn’t decide as a new photographer and they were the highest rated lens for around this focal length (they still are in terms of primes for Sony E APSC). At first they pretty much looked the same to me. One was slightly wider in terms of focal length, & one was a tad closer and more intimate so I kept both.

    Fast forward about 8 months later I finally sold the Sony 35mm F/1.8 because I found myself never taking the Sony anymore. At first I only used the Sony because of it’s size, with a winter jacket it was pocketable which I loved. Long story short, the more I was shooting pictures and traveling, editing photos wether in Lightroom or Luminar 3 (now 4), I couldn’t believe how different these two lenses are.

    The Sigma just blows the Sony away in terms of everything. Image quality, sharpness, bokeh, colors, subject separation at the same F stop is much better on the Sigma which is surprising because it’s a shorter focal length. The Sigma wide open is even sharper than the Sony stopped down to F/2.8!

    When something is that good I don’t even care about the awesome size of the Sony 35mm anymore. Plus, it’s not like the Sigma 30mm is huge, it’s still compact and light enough (I mean, we’re APSC users, not full framers)!
    The Sigma F/1.4 will help a lot (shooting higher shutter speeds, or even 2/3 to 1 full stop lower ISO!) vs Sony’s F/1.8 with OSS btw. I would go with the Sigma even if your camera doesn’t have IBIS (In-body Image Stabilization).

    I think if you’re a beginner and you’re shooting stills (pictures), then it is hard to kinda tell between the two just like I once did. But for the enthusiast, pro, or intermediate shooter this is a no brainer and go for the Sigma.
    Also, if you’re a beginner you should be buying the cheaper lens anyway.

    The only reason I can see why anyone would get the Sony f1.8 is if they’re only doing casual video and their camera doesn’t have IBIS, therefore the OSS would help. However, 35mm on APSC is not wide enough for me for video. If you’re doing video pro work, wether it’s for a company or recording high school football games every Friday then both OSS and IBIS is very poor for daily/weekly video recording, I would get a gimble instead, and in which case go get the Sigma over the Sony. Back to that Sigma again! lol

    Yes, I know this is a very old comparison now. Anyway, this is my still-go to travel prime! (going to 6 continents this year! Yes I said continents, not countries!).

    One of the best sigma trio (16mm, 30mm, 35mm) to have! I love this lens so much! Super sharp and for lowlight as well. I would love to show some pictures of what it’s capable of but the files are too large!

    This is a great prime lens at a great price. I owned its predecessor, also 30 mm but at 2.8 aperture, and this is a great upgrade to what I consider a really under-appreciated lens. But this particular lens is one of the “holy trinity” of low-aperture Sigma lenses, the 16 +30 + 56 mm. combination

    This is a lens best suited to photography. There is not any image stabilization, so if you want it for video you should get one of the Sony lenses with native image stabilization (e.g., Sony E 35mm/f1.8), or on the Sony bodies with built-in IS (a6400, a6500, or a6600). It is sharp, has good color, and tracks/focuses well, especially since the lens software upgrade back at the end of 2018. With the eye focusing system in my a6300 it gives really sharp full- and half-body portraits, as well as good outdoor images (as long as you don’t want wide landscape views).

    I use it on my a6300 about 50% of the time, with the travel 18-135 on there the other times. I don’t have the Sigma 56mm f1.4 for portraits, and this would be great to have. But if the new Sony E 16-55 f2.8 weren’t so expensive…

    Along those lines, if I ever do upgrade to the super-sharp Sony G 2.8 zoom, I will still be keeping this lens. I will sell my Sigma 16 and 56 (when I buy it, and I’m pretty sure I will) and get the 16-55 range at 2.8

    This is a versatile lens that can do portrait if you need it, and the 45mm equivalent can be useful in many landscape situations. It isn’t for zooming in for wildlife or flowers in macro mode, but it is a great performer at a nice price. It often is on sale in the $289 range… So get this and start saving for the new Sony G.

    This is a really good lens and amazing value for the price. It makes very sharp images. The only thing i dislike about this lens is the purple fringing is more noticeable then some of my other lenses but for the price to performance this lens is definitely worth it. I shot both pictures that i am uploading on this lens and i like both of them.
